Kerick & Old Wombat:

OW is right. It would be unwise not to include the Mk.36 SBROC and/or the Nulka systems. Almost all US Navy ships carry these systems as "backup" so to speak in case anti-ship missiles are not thwarted by ECM and/or other anti-missile defenses like ESSM/RAM missiles. So it would make sense to have the Mk.36 and/or Nulka systems on my model. I just need to think of where I am going to put them, how many of each to have, and then scratch build the appropriate platforms for them.

As far as the laser defense turrets go, especially at the bow port and starboard sides, I'm not too crazy with having laser turrets so close next to VLS missile hatches. I'll have to figure out some sort of blast deflector/divider to put between the laser defense turrets and the VLS at both locations. This model being a whif, the optics on the rotating ball portion of the laser turret would be pointing downward or backward when not in use or when VLS missiles need to be fired so that the optics don't get damaged by the missile rocket motor exhaust.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Or place the two systems some distance apart. Couple of hundred feet should be fine.

Do you realise that, if you put the Mk.36 SBROC/Nulka systems aboard your build, it's going to be better defended than the actual USS Gerald R Ford?  :o  ;D

But will it be better defended against little children and adults who can't........or don't........read the DO NOT TOUCH THE MODELS! signs?  ;D
Anyway, I saw that PDF Defense Authorization document. But that was from 2013. Since then, I'm sure the navy could have put SRBOC and/or Nulka on the GF carrier. But I haven't seen it yet.
Makes no sense why the Navy won't include those systems on the GF. Unless..........they think the GF is so advanced and they are "placing all their eggs in one basket" so to speak with relying on the ship's electronic countermeasures systems and stealthy capabilities to defend itself that they believe the GF carrier doesn't need such "primitive" decoy systems.

A lot of the PR stuff I was reading were going on about how great her multi-layered defence systems were & how they could take out all sorts of threats at all sorts of ranges ... by destroying them.

So, I'm figuring (especially given the photo's) that, "No, she doesn't have active decoy protection systems fitted".

Some of the less "Follow The Approved Line" speils do mention that the GRF isn't likely to go anywhere by herself & has an entire fleet unit specifically selected to defend her from (almost) all threats.

All your improvements are simply amazing, just got to ask though, what on earth is an SMQ-11 ?

From the globalsecurity.org website.
QuoteSatellite Receiver (SMQ-11)

The AN-SMQ-11 is a stand-alone environmental satellite ground receiver. The system is made up of three primary components: a motorized antenna, a signal processing and scheduling assembly, and an image processing software application called TeraScan. The SMQ-11 is capable of receiving raw imagery data in the visible, IR, and water vapor wavelengths from both the military DMSP and the NOAA TIROS polar orbiting satellites. Additionally, satellite pictures and a limited selection of weather charts can be received from the GOES satellites on the WEFAX channel. The TeraScan software application allows the user to perform numerous different functions, to include defining sectors of interest, resolution sub-sampling, imagery enhancements and colorization, and displaying eographical/coastal/political boundaries. Resultant adjacent polar orbiter images can be "stitched" together by the TeraScan software if they meet certain to create large mosaics. The system is also capable of looping satellite images.

The shear volume of incredible details in the depth of thought of every minor modification you make is unbelievable! I can't wait to see this finished
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

Thanks. :) You'll have to keep on waiting though. Still gonna be many more months before this is finished. Still have lots of aftermarket accessories to buy, and more details to add to the carrier.
The below list can include, but is not limited to the following:

Buy SPN-46 radars from 3D-Wild website.
Buy SMQ-11 radars from 3D Wild website or Veteran Models.
Buy more Photoetch fire hoses and hatches.
Need photoetch flight deck edge safety nets.
Buy Bulbous bow from 3D-Wild website.
Need more Vallejo Light Ghost Gray primer paint.
Display case and base made.
New flight deck decals
New flight deck tractors?
Assemble refueling hose reels along flight deck edge.
Add Mk.36 SRBOC chaff/flare decoy launchers
Assemble and add various aircraft for carrier.
Scratch build new life raft canisters from hexagon rod.
Finish building two more laser defense turrets.
Assemble four Mk.38 25mm chain guns.
Add four arresting wires on flight deck.
Finish adding weapons to port and starboard aft weapon sponsons.
Finish detailing Landing Signal Officer platform.
Continue to paint lower hull gray/blue as time moves along. But flight deck may not be painted till Spring when weather warms up.
Fix the flight deck area where the island superstructure sits as the island does not sit "level" on the flight deck.

I did pick up the paint from the hobby store that I hope to be using for painting the flight deck. It's a large spray can of Vallejo Panzer Grey #28002. I'm going to try it and see how it works. Contrary to popular belief, modern carrier flight decks are not black. They are more like a dark grey.

It's great you have a plan for moving ahead. I'm looking forward to seeing this get finished.

Totally agree with you
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
