Quote from: kerick on March 15, 2025, 11:03:48 PMIn the top picture the elevator parts look slightly darker but in the second picture it doesn't look that way. I'd chalk it up to the lighting. That said, a slight difference might actually show off the elevator parts to an advantage. I'd say go for it!

Quote from: Gondor on March 16, 2025, 03:26:12 AMI agree as well. Rember that the paint shade may not be exactly the same all over, the deck will take more than one tin of paint to cover in real life and it will weather as well so some variation will happen.

Gondor

In the very first picture, another reason the elevator pieces may look darker is because I had to brush paint them with 2 coats whereas the larger sheet styrene piece was only spray painted once.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

And the painting of the aircraft has begun. Just started on some of them tonight. Picture below. I'm starting with painting the landing gear first as that is white. As any modeler should know, it is easier to paint a darker color over a lighter color than vice versa. You paint all your light colors first, then start on your darker colors.
As for what colors I am using on all my aircraft, I did some research and came up with the following. Can't say for sure if it's accurate or not.
And I'm using all Vallejo Model Air Color paints as that is my main paint brand I now use for modeling.

F-35C    71.280 Camouflage Gray
F-18E    71.120 Dark Ghost Grey top and 70.615 Light Ghost Gray bottom.
F-18F    Same as F-18E.
EA-18G    Same as F-18E.
X-47B    71.275 Medium Gray
E-2C     71.121 Light Gull Gray top (?) and White bottom.
CMV-22B     White top and 71.121 Light Gull Gray bottom (?)
MH-60R/S    Upper 71.120 Dark Ghost Gray overall and 71.276 USAF Light Gray underside
MQ-25         Haven't selected color yet.

Starting to do major work on painting the aircraft the last several days. The F-35C's are done except for putting decals on them.
I'll probably wait until ALL aircraft for my carrier are fully painted, then work on decaling them. Makes better sense that way.
Anyway, now I'm starting to work on the X-47B UCAV's as well as some of the F-18 fighters.

Looking pretty darn good!
I think decals on those aircraft would drive me nuts. Carry on!

I'm only going to put the U.S. national roundels on all my aircraft.
Anything else like squadron markings or other tiny details is just too much for me to handle. Not to mention too much eye strain. x.x
After all, it is a future carrier. So it's hard to say what squadrons the planes would belong to 20 or more years from now.
Can't put squadron markings on if I don't know what will and won't exist in the future?
Then again.............anybody got a spare TARDIS I can borrow?  ;D

Dizzy must have one, he often manages to post pics of his finished builds before the GB has even started! Or it seems like that anyway.  ;D  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Totaly agree with both statements   Mind you thinking about transfers in 1/350 is enough to drive me nuts  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

And the painting for the X-47B's is done. Next on the list of aircraft to paint will be the F/A-18F's and EA-18G's.
The folded wings on the five X-47's are supposed to be canted more inward. But I wasn't able to do it. So what you see is what I got.

And another batch of aircraft is done tonight as far as painting goes.
I wish I had four more F-18F aircraft, but I don't right now. Not sure yet if I will buy more.

Six EA-18G Growlers are done being painted. Decals will be added later.
Next up on the To Do list will be at least 10-11 regular F/A-18E single seat fighter aircraft.
After that, then maybe I'll start on the SH-60 helicopters.

Can't say I'm thrilled with these Trumpeter F/A-18E's. They're nowhere near as detailed as the previous batches of Trumpeter F-18's I painted.
The previous batches of F-18's were made from clear plastic by Trumpeter and were better detailed. But these F/A-18E's which I now finished are older boxes of planes that were produced from gray plastic and lack detail. Wish I could afford better looking 3D printed planes, but they're too expensive.
