Northrop N-102 FANG

In late 1952, Northrop started a design study for a simple, lightweight, supersonic fighter aircraft, the N-102 Fang, intended to meet a USAF specification for a low weight interceptor. The Northrop proposal were selected by USAF in january 1954.
The prototype took to the air in february 1957. And after extensive testing the Fang were put in production as the F-103, taking over the designation after the cancelled Republic Mach 3 project.
The RDAF got its first F-103G Fang in late 1964. The were delivered to the two interceptor squadrons ESK 723 and ESK 726 at Aalborg AB, were they replaced F-86Ds.
The F-103 Fangs served in the RDAF until being replaced by f-16s in the 1980s.
