I'll be doing the same thing to the Lighting shortly and I'm scared 😱 😬
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

If I have to remove lots of putty or epoxie filler I resort to 80 grit until I get close. Then 220 then 400.

Pretty much the same Ken here ..I just do it with water...wet sanding removes putty and epoxy very quickly and it don't bugger you sand paper much at all  ;D

Mat's build and Phill's comment just put an evil thought in my head - the "Super TurboBolt" - put two coaxial jet engines vertically in a P-47 fuselage. Like a proto Lightning (although I think there was an early Russian jet with a similar configuration)

Looking good - that big nose intake is reminiscent of the Westland W.36 'Jet Wyvern'.
