Got to say, looking at that image, that a belt or geared transfer down to the drive shaft would look the most appropriate (you may want to beef up the drive shaft a bit, though), with reduction gearing in the final drive to bring the rev's down to something useful.

Just a thought.

Guy's ideas a goodin..a 2 speed transfer case with a 3in drive shaft...a carbon fiber one ..far far stronger than steel and at the end ..ya won't even see it 😪
In the RW I would be quite concerned about the gearbox..it was never designed to handle that amount of power ..but in wiffy world it can
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

It contains a specially machined heavy duty gearset.  And the clutch is super heavy duty.

Still thinking about this.  An angled drive shaft direct from the engine to the clutch would be simplest but I like the idea of a transfer case.  The engine bulkhead got moved about 3mm forwards today meaning that nicely detailed floor plate is for the chop.

Engine is ready for paint though.  Hemi Orange obviously.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Fred, plenty of go in that, that is a honking great big donk.

Roughly 1200ci.

Now, by what factor do we multiply 1/25 horsepower (injected 426ci race Hemi - lets say 600hp) to get the equivalent 1/35 horsepower... ;D

I come to this topic lately (I thought from the title "not airplane so not interesting for me") and I find it interesting; beauty includes the world of cars sometimes yes!
Thanks for this discovery, this model you make.

Surely the current bunch of AI 'aps' would sort that out in micro-seconds?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Quote from: zenrat on July 21, 2023, 04:03:50 AMThanks Rick.  Something to think about.

Engine looks even bigger now but remember it's a Panzer 1 which was a very small tank.  I'm glad I rethought my plan to use a 1/20 engine.

All good, trying to help (as opposed to just being trying... ;D )

Yeah, something in the 1/20 size would just be silly...  ;)

I think the gearbox and clutch would probably be machined out of Unobtanium... or Maguffinese, which IIRC it's commonly known as in the RW.

~100 in3 more than the Ford GAA used in some series of the M4 Sherman, not as long
or tall but wider. The GAA is DOHC, 4-valve per cylinder, all aluminum, hemispherical
combustion chambers. It was a V-8 conversion of a V-12 aircraft engine design which
was not a clone of the Merlin despite what the muppets on Wikipedia write, it was an
entirely different and original design.

1/25 to 1/35 426 Hemi, scale factor 1.4, scale-o-ramaed "RW" dimensions.
L: 44.8"
W: 40.6"
H: 44.8"

Ford GAA
L: 59.02"
W: 33.25"
H: 47.78"

From what I've been able to ascertain the height is to the top of the air cleaner assembly.

This is like it's had a 3508 V8 Cat stuffed into it 🤣
Of course it's totally nuts..no argument there but I absolutely love it cause of that 😄

Engine now painted.  Hemi Orange natch.

Transfer case scratched up.

Hull sides and rear assembled onto baseplate.  Some PSR needed where sprue attachment gates were.

Hull interior painted.

So, what have I been doing?

Well, having scratchbuilt a transfer case to go between the engine and the driveshaft I promptly lost it.
It turned up on the floor.  Which was nice.
I tried out some recently bought 3d printed transfer rivets to stand in as bolt heads.  They released from the backing paper nicely but didn't seem to want to stick to the plastic.  Tamiya Transfer Adhesive sorted that out and they look the part.
I've painted the inside of the hull chipped white over silver car paint and gloss cleared it.  That is ready for some heavy weather(ing) and then the engine and transmission can be mounted.
Wheels are nice shiny gloss red and today I painted the tyres.  Only 10 wheels but still a chore with no masks.
