Started work on the engine cowls. I've stolen them from the Italeri Do 24 as you can drop the engine in later.  I'also got an undercarriage from an Italeri Ju 188 as a replacement.  Mach Poo used it as a master anyway but the Italeri plastic is better.

The engine cowlings progress, one is done and primed in aluminium and the other two are curing.

From left to right - sanded, exhausts built up and filled, sanded.  This is the one that's primed in Aluminium, as it'll show the flaws better. It will end up in black, eventually.  Looks about right now, but you never know.

I have to confess that I didn't get the actuators on, but I really want the cockpit buttoned up before then and I hadn't thought about it over the weekend. Besides which, for 'reasons' the canopy is on the other side of the city.

The undercarriage legs and associated bits are all tidied up, safe in the bag with the actuators.  Once the cockpit bits are in and the canopy is on and snug, I'll look to get them in place.  All the rescribing is done too.

Actually, it dies look very smooth in the photos, but they can hide a multitude of sins.  I did give the top and bottom of the fuselage another sanding after rescribing some of the few panel lines in.

Not too far away from getting pain on this beast proper, although a visit to Halfords to get a new can of Aluminium could be in order.

Engine cowlings nearly there.  Final aluminium coat.  In the background, the canopy is dry fitted after a modicum of sanding.  May need another final bath in some Kleer, but it's now 110% fashion, as opposed to the opaque coke bottle it was.

Cockpit interior, what little passes for it anyway, is in.

And the canopy is in place too.

The cowlings are there to mock it up a bit more.

Quote from: Wardukw on August 27, 2023, 01:43:08 PMOK I took some time and had a gander at Hannets as they've got a good pile of Mach 2 models on offer and I did find a few which I like even if they are in the wrong scale  ;D
There are 5 which that got my attention and they are the Martin RB-57F ...Arado AR-232B ..PBY-2 Coronado..the AW Argosy and last but not least the Avro York ..the prices tho are ouch ..the Argosy is £45  $96nz ..if I do bite the bullet and get a Mach 2 kit it's gonna be a very long minute before I do.

Don't bother with the York. The Lancaster bits are direct copies, through poo tinted moulding methods, of the 1979 Airfix tooling.  For the prices charged, I'd source a CMR York conversion and use a cheap Revell (2006 tool) Lancaster.  Better quality to start with.

Canopy all masked, so I shot it with a coat of RLM 02 as I had it in the airbrush for an Isreali Avia S-99.  Once dried, the first coat of filler is on.  Looking forward to getting the white top decking on.

I recognise that other cockpit hiding in the background too.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I've a very similar prone pilot lying on my workbench at this very moment, although he wont be used.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The Wooksta!

Filled and sanded back. I've a feeling that the fuselage should have been sanded back more on the join line. Had I not part started it, I probably would have.  As it is, I've had to take about a mm all round on the fuselage and add filler in places.

Shot again with another coat of 02 where I'd sanded off the older coat. It also took out some of the masked panels, so back out with the Maskol.

Off into the garden to get a decent coat of white on the top and tail, as well as the wing roots to see if there's any flaws left to fix.

The Wooksta!

The white showed up a few flaws which have necessitated more filler. The area around the canopy isn't as good as I thought (some is going black. Which should hide some of it) plus there's a fair bit of rescribing to be done.

The white areas need to be complete so I can mask them before I can get all the actuators on under the wing.  I've purposely left them off as  due to all the handling during the myriad sanding session they'd likely get knocked off and disappear.

The wheels are now done, but the tailwheel will need some surgery.  After I'd given the canopy it's second coat of 02, I sprayed the 70 on the props.

Slowly getting there.
