Good idea using the colored dots. Of course the right side dots should have been green.
Just kidding. I might have used silver dots from a handy paint pen.

It is indeed. Using coloured pens is probably far easier than my usual approach, which is to use small bits of masking tape.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Not much new on progress.
Currently working on painting the main canopy. Having trouble as the paint is bleeding underneath the masking tape and getting into places where I don't need it to go.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:
I am using the yellow TAMIYA masking tape, but still........:(
And before anybody asks, No, there is no canopy masks for this kit as the kit is old from late 1980's.
But I did buy some tiny TAMIYA cotton swabs with pointed tips and then dip those in some thinner to try and wipe away the excess paint from the areas where it wasn't supposed to go.
And then after the main canopy is done, there's two smaller cockpit window pieces to add.
Still need to detail the interior of the cockpit a little bit more.
I can't add the rotor engines to the ends of the wings nor add the rotor blades till after all decaling has been done for the aircraft. But decaling won't be done till maybe sometime in January I hope if I can get the decals I need from a member of my local model club.
And probably one of the last items on the "to do" list is add the hardpoint pylons for the torpedos on either side of the main fuselage.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

This is about as far as I can go on this model till I get the decals I need from some friends at my next model club meeting.
The decals need to be added before I add the engines and rotor blades to the wings.
Unfortuneately for this model, it's a tail sitter.  :banghead:  Which is why there's a bottle of paint holding up the aft end in the pictures.
Maybe once I get the engines and rotors on, that hopefully will eliminate the tail sitting issue. If not, then I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
And the last thing to add after the engines, rotors, and decals are done will be adding the crew access door on the starboard side as well as adding the torpedo launch pylons and torpedos.
So for right now, this model is now on temporary hiatus.

Why not move the sonobouy dispenser to the rear of the fuselage and set the scene as if the ground crew are loading the sonobouys, then the problem of the tail--sitting goes away.

Can't do that. See the below picture. When AMT made the kit, they scribed the sonobouy area into the plastic fuselage. With the model fully painted and almost complete, it's too late now to move the sonobouy area somewhere else.

That's what putty and small drills and scribers are for.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Word!

Just got a bunch of extra decals from another modeler at my local model club meeting today. So my model should hopefully be finished this weekend or the next few days with decaling as well as gluing the engines and props on, crew entry door on, etc. .

I'm currently in the process of putting extra decals on this model tonight.
Other than that, I have a question regarding the following older pic I had posted.
I painted the main body of the torpedos green. Should they have been silver (or steel/aluminum) instead?
What would look better with a blue painted aircraft?

Old Wombat

Just did an online search &, across several different marks/makes & about the last 30-40 years, green is good!

Nose-cap colours vary a bit, though black would be a good active-service colour (I saw orange, white, silver & black).
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!

FINISHED!
I will never buy nor build another AMT/Ertl kit as long as I live.  :banghead:
Poor fitting parts, confusing instructions, soft plastic, and the list goes on and on. This kit is a piece of crap.  :banghead:
BUT..........I stuck with it and did the best I could. So here she is in all her glory.
