Yes, I KNOW Junkers didn't get that far up the number ladder, but perhaps they might have?

I've always like the shape of the Ju 288, the 'winner' of the RLM's 'Bomber B' competition, even though it never entered service for real. I got one of the very well engineered HUMA Ju 288 kits from a very good member here some years ago with a view to Whiffing it into something better, maybe even with longer wings............  ;)

Eventually these ideas coalesced into a competitor for the Ta 400 'Amerika Bomber' with a longer fuselage, easy with the 288 as it's just a box really, longer wings of course and double the number of engines. The latter is the problem as the 288 used the massive DB 610 inverted W-24 engine, which was effectively two DB 605s joined together with a massive crankcase, and as with many similar projects of the time, it didn't work worth a light, but it looks good.  ;D

This'll be a long term-project, like many of mine, but it's started off with some lateral thinking. The extra engines just aren't available in any other kit, and HUMA 288s are about as rare as unobtanium, a grand total of none being available on ebay. So I plan to duplicate the ones in the kit, or rather I'd like someone ELSE to duplicate them as that's beyond my skill level currently, and I've 'entered into a negotiated posture' with one such friend.

This means using one of the existing engines as a master, and they're an integral part of the wing in the kit, so I'll have to chop them out after assembling them. The extra engines won't need the main gear bays so I'll have to build this one engine with the bay doors closed, and maybe UN-close them afterwards, or something like that.

Accordingly I've assembled the quite complex, but superbly engineered main landing gear on one side just to see if they can be assembled to the engine nacelle  after the wings are assembled. They can so that's alright.

Here's that main gear leg,  pretty complex, isn't it?

And here's the wing/engine assembled. I'll carefully chop the engine nacelle out of the wing once it's all dry.

Definitely interested in some copies (in resin?) of those jumo 222's.

Have vacuumformed canopy for ju-288 and Ju 388 available.

They're DB 610s, not Jumo 222s Dave. Quite a bit fatter, specially when they're cowled.

Everything from 188 - 388 is absolute amazing ,  I love the shape of that at all ...

( I have to say that I also have another new project with a 188 in progress     )

Good luck with your 288 !
It's a Land Rover, NOT a Jeep . Like a Jeep, but for gentlemen.

Hello Kit, maybe I (or better a friend of mine) can indirectly help with the engines.

PM sent.

Those are just poor copies* of the Toad Resins engines for their Ju 488V-403 and I think I may have a mould for those somewhere.

*Bird models seems to be knocking out a lot of copies of various Toad kits and conversions.

Herr Vogel behind this and many other dubious Luft '46 resin casts never posts pics of the parts themselves at all, and he is so creative to copy what-if builds (in a poor fashion, it's really annoying) even from our forum and sells them without source credit or any usual good manners. Piece of sh!t, IMHO. Stay away.

He's been missing a while then.................

Here's my scheme for the extended fuselage of the Ju 588. I tried a few lengths, and some looked silly and some weren't long enough, but this one's just under a 2" extension, 1/3 forward of the wing and 2/3 aft.

Do the proportions look OK to you lot?

I emailed him a few years ago when he had copied some of my models, including the back stories.
He agreed to include a credit with these kits.
Later I learned that he had indeed done so when someone contacted me after buying one of the Stormvogel models and seeing the credit.
