I DETEST having to repair a model before I've finished building it!  :banghead:  :banghead:

I glued the bombs, props and half the wheels on the 588 last night, and this morning one prop blade off the #4 engine has snapped off, grrrrrrrrrrrrr. :(

The inboard wheels are in place, but crooked because the gear legs aren't straight, but they couldn't be as that's the way the over-complex mounting frames fit. I can't see a way out of it bar chopping the lower half of the legs off and re-gluing them with wire inserts in place.

I've yet to sand the flats on the inner tyres before filing the outer ones to suit and getting them in place.

All I need to do after that is gluing the guns on..................

Maybe write a bit into the backstory about a hard landing that partially collapsed the gear?
Repairs took so long that the base was overrun before they were complete.

Just a thought - whatever you decide as it's YFM, after all...  ;)  ;D

I hate that too Kit ...fecking ariels breaking..guns ..radar antenna on night figthers  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:
Landing gear is the most annoying cause the weight they have to support.
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I've improved the wheels a tad by filing the flats on them asymmetrically so all of them touch the ground now, but they're still twisted a tad. Luckily it's very difficult to notice under those MASSIVE engine nacelles so I'll leave them as they are.

The prop blades are glued back on now, so all that's left are the final paint trimming and the guns.

Should only take a week or so......................

Am I ever going to finish this BLOODY model?  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

All I had to attach were the guns, most of the original Huma ones having broke off ages ago. To this end I bought some resin FF cannons and some Master brass and resin Mk 103s and luckily I got a lot of them too...........

Assembling the 103s is a NIGHTMARE! The bits are so small I can't even SEE them, let alone hold them! I needed a magnifying lens with surround lamp eventually, and even then I only got ONE Mk 103 out of the set of four! Likewise with the FFs, I got eight of them in a set, but only four got on the model in the end, the carpet Monster nailing the rest of them.

Here's the solo MK 103 hanging out the back, there's NO way that's even going to reach the first show I bet. :(

I've got to paint it of course, but I thought I better show pics of it now as it might break off while I pant it!

Here's a couple of the FFs, I only used the barrels as the rest of them are inside the turret. (Kit's 2nd Rule applies....)

The other two are in the top turret, just ahead of the wing.

To make matters worse, the top blade of the #1 engine's prop broke off AGAIN, and that got eaten too.  Luckily I have lots of spares, and as it's the one most likely to snap off, I'm re-fastening with some fuse wire adown its shaft, then it might only bend, rather than break.

This thing Will Not Go Gently into the Night - or at least the 'Completed-d*mn-you! display', will it?! :banghead:

I wonder whether you'd be better with sewing pins as the barrels, with the addition of whatever muzzle brake they give you?

PR19_Kit

Who knows? They're on now anyway, but the replacement prop blade broke while I was gluing it on.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

And the replacement blade for the replacement blade broke as well!  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

I've got enough bits to build a totally new prop, so I've snapped the old one off totally 9and STAMPED on it!) and I'll make a new one, with wired on blades and aligned so no one blade is sticking straight up!

Oh yeah, the flash suppressor on the tail gun fell off too, but I don't care, it's STAYING off, so there!

It's not trying to tell you something is it Kit ?  :-\
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Yes, it's saying 'I don't WANT to be built!' in flashing neon lights, darn it!  :banghead:  :banghead:

Threaten it with one of the late Mrs PR_19's hammer collection.................or Rheged minor can drop off the 14lb felling axe from our garage the next time he's down your way taking photos at the Forest of Dean Railway.

I like the 14 lb felling axe idea.

I wonder how many of us have had a model that bloody Murphy has had a hand in making our lives a certifiable nightmare 🤔
I know I've ripped some models to bits out of pure anger dew to one thing or another.  :banghead:

I THINK it's finished..........................  :-\

I did all the little detail painting bits, and of course knocked a blade of that BLOODY #1 prop again, but it's glued back on again now. Then I found I'd forgotten to paint the umpteen exhausts, so got on with that, and did a bit of weathering along the exhausts and nacelles.

The weathering dried GLOSS for goodness sake! Who makes GLOSS weathering paint, they must be nuts?

Anyway, this morning it'd had all dried and I sprayed the entire underside with matt varnish, and that really is it! It's done and dusted, so pics will appear later today, along with an immensely long and complex backstory.  ;D

Looking much forward to this. A lovingly complicated backstory is exactly what I need to convince myself I'm living in one right now, and soon will wake up to find myself in the eternal peace again.. :P
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
