Did some work on the base today...to get the look I'm after now it needed to be longer and wider .
Well I thought it needed to be wider but it turns out lenght is the only requirement.
So that's what I did..by 150mm ...because of the new Tiger SPG I needed more lenght ..it's the barrel which is causing all the issues .
Now ive got the length,, I now needed more stuff to layer the ground with and rebrick the bridge ..so I made em .
Using molds I made up blocks and rocks ..ive got plenty of rocks now ..nit sure ive got enough blocks but ive got that covered with something to make it good .

The rocks have been layed down and glued ..gaps filled with smaller ones and by tomorrow I'll take some pics of it .
Might even chuck some primer over it but there might be a bit more work to tie the new parts to the old ..I'll need to make this look like it was never added even tho most of it will disappear 😉

Ok today has been pretty good with this heat ...its actually come in very handy as the PVA is drying quite fast .
So i decided to get on with the stone blocks for the new bridge abutment and oh does it look so much better than the first layout and heres some pics to keep you lot interested  ;D

Now theres no weathering on this at all..thats just gray paint to seal the plaster up and help it dry .
This has been worked a little bit ...added some more branches just to get the affect im after for what comes next  ;)

I recognise those blocks - I inherited a set of the moulds from a friend a while ago.
Still not used them, but they're there for when I want to.

Those moulds are getting nearly impossible to get now..the two I have cost me 20 notes each ..I'd wish I could see all the different ones this company made .
I'm sure they did more than the 2 types I have .

Standard bricks like you have, curved ones for towers, and arched windows/doors are what I can recall off the top of my head.

Wardukw

Well it would seem that I have em both then ..if that's the only 2 they made who ever made em then these are very high quality moulds ..thick and heavy and man they make some nice parts .
I've got a nice pile of moulds from Woodland Scenics..there pretty good too.
As for things like bricks I tend just buy em already made...there to small and take to long to make 😅

Roll your putty out into a sheet, cut long strips and then  the individual bricks.
Once dry, stick them down with double-sided tape and spray; when dry, turn over and repeat.

A bit of faff, but a whole lot cheaper!

Epoxy is what I've seen used, but something like paper clay or similar could work, too.
The cheapie shop stuff in the tubs, not the celluclay/das stuff with the fibres. Though that could work too, with a sharp blade, and would be more solid than the cheap stuff.

FWIW, HTH

Das clay is something ive got a lot of so those home made bricks im gonna have to try and remember.
I like making things myself cause it just makes me skills better .
Now I just got to think of something where bricks are needed 🙃
I'll figure out something

Thanks Buzzy mate 😊

Things have changed  since the last pics ..the layout is finally becoming reality from what my nut saw .

So I have been curious enough to have a peruse and these are the ones I have - though I see there are a couple of other, small ones I don't have:

I think I also inherited the instructions, so when I am back home again, I will hunt them out and get you a copy.

And I have also found these, locally available:

Rick I see what you mean..ive never seen the 2 small ones before..not sure how much use they be but would be cool to have em tho 🤔 😎

Those mighty ape ones look tempting 👀

Ok now i can show you guys the results of a couple of days work on this dio .
When the first ideas for this build didnt grab me at all and the more i progressed the less i liked it and you all saw the results ....cut it to bits and destroyed the bridge .
I watched a vid on youtude from a gent named Night Shift ,,pretty sure a few of you have seen Martins work and mind blowing is a pretty good understatement .

He built a dio with a JS-2 tank crossing a blown out bridge and to fill the gap where the bridge is broken logs are stuffed into the hole/gap.
Now me being me i wasnt going to copy his work but the inspiration i got from his build fired me up bigtime .,,so i did what i did and this so far is how its going ...still a ton more work to go but this is to be expected ...i still have one SPG to finish building and the Sherman to paint and detail .
heres the pics lads  ;D
And yes those are all bits and pieces of dead twigs which i collected from one of the massive trees we have here at the camp .

This kinda the same  idea of the SPG being abandoned cause it couldnt be pulled out after something crapped out ...not sure what broke but the gear boxes in the Tiger did not like being over worked and tended to break and working along the same lines as the King Tiger which had the same power train in it as the Hunting Tiger which weighted quite alot more it was over worked it quite severely ...the power to weight ratios being shot to poop .
So this is what happened to the Tiger SPG ..well its a anti tank gun technically specking  so its a Panzerjäger Tiger 1 or a Waffentrager 17cm  PaK 49 L/71 Auf Panzer VI "Tiger 1".

nope its not going to look like that ,,gotta set the suspension up to droop more ...thats gonna be fun  :o

Amazing.

Yeah, when you need a whole lotta logs, use the real thing - cheap as chips and easy to find/work. ;D

If I can suggest, I have heard the technique of spraying anything natural with a Glycerine mix - this replaces the moisture in the natural material and stops it from rotting or mildewing.
Available at chemists/supermarkets and just use a spray bottle/mister to apply.

As a disclaimer, I've not used it myself, but there was a fella in the club that often used small twigs to depict trees and that was his technique.

Carry on, Sir!
