Rheged

Madame Rheged was at a meeting this morning (at the Bishop's Palace in Hereford)  so having chauffeured her there, I mooched round the charity shops. The local hospice shop had a few unopened kit boxes at silly (collector-type) prices, but they also had  two large poly-bags  labelled "various modelling bits and pieces  £2"  so I bought both.  Obviously no boxes or instructions, but having had a quick sort through,  I think I can assemble  from the assorted components:-
a  (much modified)  Airfix Tribal class destroyer,
two or three miscellaneous armoured vehicles that will never figure in any recognition manual,
a couple of Spitfire-ish aircraft  that Supermarine would deny all knowledge of
and probably that previously unknown trainer, the Gnawk.

There is also a slack handful or two of sundry u/c legs, tracks ,pilots/crew members ,unidentifiable bits,  Dapol truck and trackside building bits and cracked/torn transfer sheets.

I think that this probably counts as a win.  Anyway, it's interesting to reach into what was someone else's scrap box and see what can be built.
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."
It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

Quote from: Wardukw on April 03, 2024, 12:34:40 PMVerlinden 120mm Battle of Agincourt 1415 ..this one is quite cool ..has the knight on his horse and he looks complete..what's missing is the bloke he's about to bugger up ..but this could be changed as around a bit with other bits I've now got .

The Verlinden stuff was "Top of the Range" when it first came out   Mind you I'm not to sure it'd be that accurate if he's about to "bugger" up an English archer ? Not sure the French Cavalry got that far  ;)
Chris what I know about this time line of conflict you could write down on my pinky with very large letters  ;D
The dude the knight is trying to ruin any chance of waking up the next day is a pike men ..long stick with a blade or axe head sort of deal ..wearing a blue smock ...but as this blokes torso is missing a new model will take his place.
Sorting thru this pile I've got another torso from a same time period..also found helmets..weapons ..arms and legs ..so something could be made ..as from which nation though would be anyone's guess 🤔.
The casting though is very very nice for the knight and horse ..this would have been damn expensive that's for sure .
OK updates ..
Found 4 Egyptian god statutes..along with some smaller Egyptian based parts and bits ..these are 120mm sized .

Found 3 SAS figures..so out of date its not funny..their quite old models but still nicely cast ..Verlinden 120mm figures for sure and sold separately..I remember seeing these decades ago .
They will need a major update on their weapons as they are MP5s with the massive Maglight torches and straight 30rd magazines .
What I did forget to mention to up blokes is I scored a Convair Pogo  ;D  ;D
It's very old and already made ..raised detail and the propellers counter rotate ..very cool 😎
It's also 48th scale .
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Uniformity of clothing (eg: "uniforms") wasn't a thing back then, you wore what you could afford or plunder after a battle, with some token of your local lord or king/nation worn to display your loyalties.

Well it did save them having to pay all those mercenary Genoese crossbowmen  ;)

Bought an Az Models 1:72 Yokosuka D4Y2 Suisei via Ev!lbay for a rather simple livery whif. There's also the Fujimi kit(s), but the Az offering has the benefit that any D4Y you buy comes with both the inline and radial engine, so that the donor bank grows happily.  <_<

Yesterday my missus calls and says she's with an older gentleman who used to build models and says he's got a bunch of stuff to give out so, we started a whatsapp chat right away... 40 minutes later i was at his house.
Long story short, i came home with a box full of old and wrecked models built by him in his youth which sustained a cat landing... :banghead:
Also brought 8 complete models in different conditions and a bunch of old boxes from models he said he's going to bring back from his other house for me. Also got his spares box that, luckily wasn't too big, a set of 6 small files which i will probably be using very often and a tube of UHU Plast glue...
