I need ideally, 3 pairs of these for my Fleet Air Arm crusaders. After having a chat with Thomas (Dizzyfugu) about the drop tanks he used on his Argentine F-8, he told me that they are what he used. If anyone in the UK has any to spare that would be brilliant, and all expenses paid for by me.
Cheers.

IIRC those tanks are common on various Navy aircraft of that time period. Other kits might have what you need.

If you get really stuck then Freighdog do resin A-4 tanks that are supposed to be more accurate than the ones you get in many kits. That might get a bit pricey for six though.

Cheers for the heads up, I might just need one pair now, as I might be getting 2 pairs. Any ideas what else might use these tanks please? I was going to put some surplus E.E lightning tanks on them but they are way too long.
Cheers

I'd think A-7 Corsairs and A-6 Intruders would be likely candidates, but I don't know for sure.

I was thinking A-6 intruder also as I have a picture of a Crusader carrying some large drop tanks.

Corsairs and Intruders would be a good source. Even the S-3 Viking carried those tanks. RN Crusaders sound interesting!

Cheers, I want to put tanks on them as they will be part of an alternative Falklands war task force, and carrier, a refitted Ark Royal will be stationed beyond the range of the Argentinian aircraft.

Somewhere on here there's a whole thread on those tanks. From memory they're Douglas Aero-1A drop tanks and come in various sizes. The first ones were developed for the A-4, and proved to be so low drag the USN used them on almost everything.

Undoubtedly JSF will have more info on this.

And this may be worth a read too.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Still in need of some of these tanks. Even one pair will suffice for now, as I want to get this Crusader finished before I move.

Chris, are you stilll looking for these tanks?

I've got a couple more Airfix Skyhawks on the way so I'll have a surplus now.
