Is this the exterior colour painted too? Looks pretty authentic to me.
Is the wood real wood or painted plastic?

Yes, a classic Trabant colour (or the only one?) But the white roof is a decadent western luxury item, would never have been approved in the good ol' days...

Oops, I didn't know that about the roof  :o

perttime

That is the classic colour. I remember seeing ones in some kind of a pale blue but there were others.

Hi,
I went ahead and repainted the roof to the same color as the body.  I have just been using some craft paint on this build, and the exterior color is called "Camel".  The actual model kit is kind of weird in that one sprue is molded in dark gray while another is molded in light gray, with the body shell being molded in white.

Still looks pretty funky Pat ..I like that 😀😆
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Hi,
I'm finally beginning to feel like I'm getting close to the end.  I still have a handful of things to do, like add the windows and windsheild wipers, the grill, a small part of the exhaust on the bottom and clean up the paint (especially the wheel hubs).  Although I don't intend to really do any weathering, I think I will maybe try and do a little bit of panel lines stuff and maybe some washes to try and add a little contrast in the paint.

Regards

Pat

.5mm drawing pencil Pat works perfectly for panel lines and it would look even better than it already does  ;D

Hopefully the kit came with registration plates.

I do a pin wash for my car panel lines.  Don't use black on light coloured cars - it looks too stark and toy/cartoon like (unless you are after that look of course).  Instead I use a wash made from thinned Tamiya Smoke.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Well, the Trabant does look kinda cartoony & toy-like ... ;)

Don't forget it's "high quality for the masses made by our fraternal socialist comrades in German Republic."  So there 'could' be some darker gaps for "the fit"

I drove through all of ex-est Germany in 1991. Lots of Trabants abandoned when broke, free for other users to get parts they neeeded. That was a true essence of socialism...

Hi,
I made a first try at adding a little wethering/panel line marking.  I think I probably still need to do a little clean up on it, but so far I am happy with it.  Mostly what's left is adding the windsheild (wipers and mirrors), figuring out how to due the rear window, adding a small part to the bottom that fell off, the tail lights, and cleaning up the paint (escpecially the wheel hubs).  Though everytime I do anything to the build I usually end up finding a bit here or there that I want to try and clean up  :-\
