Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Not actually surprised, Fred.  ;D

Must say, though, you're bringing her together really well!

There is some paint damage from glue oozing to hide, but generally yes.  Thank you.
I get angry though when I work on it due to Airfix's lack of effort.   :banghead:

Painting rotors, fettling props, and undercarriage assembly next.  Undercarriage is crude and undetailed.  I'll have to see what I can do about that.

That's the point.  They did nothing to the moulds before re-popping it.  I don't mind building old kits but I want them to be as the designer intended.  Not the product of a worn and damaged mould which has not been given the TLC it deserves.

Today's pic.  I had to jack up the rotor a touch so it cleared the tail.

Did yours have the short shot hinges for the clamshell doors Fred? Most seem to be like that.

That's why the upper fins folded on the real thing. I'm not 100% sure but I think the folding fins were linked to the landing gear deploying.

The hinges weren't short shot, they appeared to have been snapped off.  I presume during the process of removing the sprues from the mould.  Both kits I bought were like this.

If you sag the blades (like they were IRL) then they strike the tails.  I might have to engineer a folding mechanism on the Maxidyne.

The Tinydyne looks great! Almost tempted to buy the kit, except for the problems you mentioned. Scalemates shows that the kit dates to 1959! I remember my dad building one in the mid-60s.

Coming along nicely, Fred!

If you do decide to buy one then try and find an old one.  Older the better - the moulds will have been in better condition when it was made.  Transfers will be shot but you weren't going to build it OOB were you.
Hopefully the existence of new kits will have pushed the price of older ones down.

Thanks Cap.

I started cleaning up the props today.  They have very rough blade edges and big mould separation lines around the base of the blades..
