This is getting beautifully bonkers.

Tophe would love this one !

I've decided to add a sawtooth wing extension to the starboard side too, but as this IS a Tophe-esque model it's not the same size as the port one.  ;D

I've also added some triangulated members to the big centre wing spar and that's looking quite promising. I'm not sure just how strong it'll all be once it's assembled, and it may need careful handling while moving to a from a show stand.

Love it!

Give it eight engines, four big ones on the left and four small ones on the right...

OR, since you're building the centre-wing section yourself, give it a leading edge intake, trailing edge exhausts, and have all the engines buried inside it, Comet style. It'd be a lot of PSR, but then you'd have sixteen engines available for other projects...

Hehehe, I've built four of the P&W JT-43Ds and four of the CFM-56s already, and there's lots of slots under both wings for most of them by now.  ;D

I like the IDEA of the Comet type engine installation, but the centre section is a difficult enough job building it already! I may put a large overwing engine on there, like an RB-211 etc, but offset a little bit of course.  ;D

I once flew in a VFW-614 so I like the idea of looking out the window and ensuring myself that the engines are REALLY there!

Here's the min-sawtooth on the starboard wing, quite a bit less 'in your face' than the port one.

And here's the centre section assembly with just its lower skin added so you can see the structure. The spar is glued into the stub wings now, having been tapered on its upper surface to counteract the dihedral of the stubs, and test fitting shows the two fuselages to sit nicely vertical.

RESULT!

Of course the correct place for airliner engines is on the rear fuselage...

Bit late now, but if you'd put both fuselage extensions ahead of the wing in the left fuselage, you could have had a bank of engines joining the two fuselages at the rear and still had low-mounted tailplanes outboard of them.

I added the upper skin on the centre section last night and taped it in place while the glue dried.

It's AMAZING quite how strong the whole assembly is this morning with it all plugged together. With no glue on the wing/fuselage joints both fuselages remain in line with each other and I can support the entire assembled model from one wing!

More pics later today with luck.

Wow.  It's almost like you might know what you're doing.

What thickness of sheet are you using for the skin?

I didn't, but I do now. It's the first time I've done anything as 'basic' as this.

The spar structure is made from cut up sections of 60 thou and the skins are from 25 thou stuff, or the metric equivalent anyway.

Great engineering, with all the proper calculations as well... or not  ;D

While applying the final (I hoped...........) primer coat I managed to snap off the mega-sawtooth starboard wing half. :(

It wasn't anywhere near as well engineered as the centre section, using far too thin a styrene wing tongue, and I've replaced it with a length of piano wire and some strong superglue.

So now I'm waiting till that all cures properly before some more PSR and THEN the final primer coat!
