Ship spotting

I'm always slightly bemused by the amount of armament US Coastguard cutters carry, but then I grew up with HMCG.

Is the USCG part of the US armed forces ? When you see old WWII movies and newsreels the guys steering the landing craft are wearing USCG lifevests and helmets. Noticably the RN ones will just have a duffel coat and round hat

In war time the CG comes under the US Navy. Now with the Dept of Homeland Security I would have to check exactly.

Plus some of the drug runners they chase are well armed

I always thought they were. But then when you think of it, it's always Army Navy Air Force Marines.

Coasties get left out quite often. Should also include the Merchant Marine.
At least Soldier Field in Chicago got it right.

Currently anchored about two miles from the house is this lady.
Don't know whose or what and with the direction of the light I can not make out a pennant number.

Have played with the contrast - she is flying a French ensign.
Hard to read the pennant number, but I think she is D644 Primaguet, a late Georges Leygues Class anti-submarine destroyer.

'The Georges Leygues class (Type F70 AS) is a class of anti-submarine destroyers of the French Navy. They are multi-role ships due to their Exocet and Crotale missile armament, making them especially suitable for the defence of strategic positions, show of force operations, or as high seas escorts. The F70 is internationally labelled an "anti-submarine destroyer" (hence the "D" in the hull numbers), though the French do not use the term and refer to the ships as "frigates".' (Wikipedia)

I think Trident Fury has recently ended off the coast of Newfoundland, where there were dozens of Allied ships taking part. Might be from that.

Had a trip on a Cruise Ship a few weeks ago, took us to Zeebrugge, Le Harve and Cherbourg. I snapped a few ships, although there were many more that I didn't get the chance to take, including some naval ships in Belgium (I'm cautious about snapping military subjects in foreign countries).

I was just down in Fremantle with my youngest son. Tied up at the Wharf was two naval ships. HMAS Adelaide and a Spanish AAW Frigate. Neither was open to the public. Adelaide was HUGE. The Spanish frigate quite impressive looking. Stooged around the wharf for a little while, chatted to the two crew on the gate and then left. My youngest was quite impressed with how big Adelaide was.

HMAS Adelaide is one of two LHDs the RAN now operate. It has a very large helicopter flight deck. Not sure what the Spanish Frigate is here, except on a sales tour for the up-coming AAW contract, which Spain is one of the contenders for.

Th boy was out on his bike ( the big 450 ) and came home and said " There's 4 jacked up Internationals at Sarnia Bay hauling four big boats ". Race boats ? " No, they are all gray " Something like this ? ( show him google pic of US Navy SEAL boats ) " Just like that ! " Let's roll !
