I took a walk into Olde Town the other afternoon to visit the post office.  Along the way, I snapped a few pix of things I saw in the river.

First up, a NOAA oceanagraphic research tub.



Next, the battleship USS Wisconsin (BB 64).  The brick obscuring most of the ship is the Nauticus museum.



In the river between these two was this mysterious vessel.

Not the two-master to the right, but the brownish thing in the center of the photo.

I took another walk to the library and post office this afternoon, and I spotted a few items of interest.  The floaty things are here, while the flying stuff appears in the "What Flew Over My House Today" thread.

This SWATH vessel was sitting in the middle of the river.



It's not one of the Impeccable T-AGOS ships, nor one of the littoral combat ships, but I couldn't find reference to any other sort of SWATH vessels in USN or USNS service.

I think my company has the contract for the refit for Leyte Gulf, not sure though.

I took a walk in the early evening, yesterday.  It wanted to rain, but there were never more than a few drops while I was out.  Cloud cover made it lousy for plane spotting, but I did get a few shots from the river.

There was a small flotilla of tugs, manhandling a barge.




Further down the river is the BAE Systems yard, where I got the shots last week of the Leyte Gulf.  A little further downriver was USNS Grapple (T-ARS 53), a salvage ship.

I used to love flying into Norfolk to see the ships in the yard.  PHL is great too.  Final for 27R goes right over the shipyard. 

Anyhoo...I have a relative in England who lives right on the coast (I mean right on the beach) between South Sheilds and Sunderland.  She has a front row seat to the Sunderland Airshow (coming up this weekend).  When Iwas there last week the ships were already starting to show up.  Not sure what this one is, but it was parked right in front of her house last week.  Bay Class maybe..?

Late to the party here, but it looks to me like a mdium-large motor-sailer with its masts removed, possibly in the midst of a major refit.
A couple of the boats I worked on in Hawaii looked like that at various times as it is at times necessary to dismast a sailing
vessel and required if one has problems with the mast step(s).

Not a SWATH vessel, appears to be some type of wave-piercing catamaran utility vessel design, but not SWATH.
