Lou's right..fixed landing gear ...it's like some late prototype where it used fixed gear just to see how it handled in flight .
Hell that Arado 4 engined swept wing bomber the Germans built near the end of the war had fixed landing gear..four of em 😳 😬

You mean the Ju 287, which had four jet engines and fixed undercarriage, but it was intended as a low speed test vehicle for the swept forward wing platform.

Yeah Lee that's the bugger I think ..thought it was an Arado but makes no never mind..that's it .
What got me was just how damn big that landing gear was ..it looked way oversize ..very cool plane tho ..really good wiff fodder  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .

Interestingly the Ju 287's landing gear came from captured B-24s, but with the spats added for aerodynamic reasons.

And much of the rest of them came from H-177s.

It's not a total loss, just the original Plan is scrapped.

I'm already planning different float 'legs' rather than the original dreadful struts.

Hollow legs perhaps? I'm thinking of a kind of extended "trouser" between each float and the fuselage, with steps cut into the body of each leg which the back story could say were extra fuel/cargo areas.

With wings that long the last thing it'd need would have been more fuel space!

They'll probably be a scale 9-10" thick, like Spitfire floatplane legs. And they'll have to wait till I get some 20 thou styrene to laminate, which may be tomorrow.

I just realized this thread is going on :
this thing "deserves" floats !
Quite long ago I had a try at the Planet Models one, did it to my own standards ;-) and did it in yellow (full !  ;D  )

courage !

Dizzyfugu

How about going TOTAL nuts and add a retractable float (à la Blackburn B-20)? Yes, lots of PSR, but if we want a fast floatplane, then "this is the way".  Think BIG! ;)

I quite like that idea, and I've always loved the B.20, it's such a mad system, but it worked.  ;D

I'd have to scratchbuild the float as it'd need to be twice the size of the originals, and the only down side is that IT would need the blasted struts just to extend it, but they could be brass or piano wire instead of thin styrene rod.

Do the B-20 Kit ....that would look strange and excellent at the same time ...IE ,,prefect  ;D

I drew up a float a la B.20 and it looks HUGE. Maybe I could make it a tad wider, but time's not of the essence really.

Ain't the float on the B.20 like half the fuselage in size ?
Or damn close to it..I know it's a bloody big chunk of alloy ..remember it's a wiffy so it's gonna work anyway  ;D
But it's also got to look right ..I do know it'll look damn good tho and weird..I like

Yes it is, as wide as the B.20's fuselage and about 2/3 the height. It won't fit as well on the He-119 as that's got a low wing, but it should work technically OK.

It'll need tip floats too, but I have almost a full set of Aeroclub vacform floats in The Loft
.
