Is it possible to place a nose weight in the tip of a float as you cast it? It would help balance it a little.

Couldn't see why not ..it's just a mold and a weight could be added during pouring the resin ...they put lights..LEDs into resin when poured ..so a weight shouldn't be a issue.
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

You might, I say might because I haven't done chemistry for over 50 years, get some interesting chemical reactions between lead and the resin as it cures ? But hey, "interesting chemical reactions" is what leads to progress, right ?  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I wouldn't think there would be Chris ..resin is just plastic at the end of the day...and the heat it generates ain't anywhere near enough to mess with lead ..it shouldn't anyway ...come to think of it I think ive poured resin on lead before and I don't remember any problems..fact I don't know when either 🤔 😁

ISTR a Canadian website selling aftermarket floats in various sizes.  I probably bookmarked it but my bookmarks are a mess and I can't find anything.

<edit>  Found it.  Alaskan, not Canadian.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Well there you are them, obviously the fumes generated lead to memory loss  ;)

Beautiful looking kits. I think the floats might be too smal for a Skyraider but I'll take a closer look later.

Quote from: kerick on September 24, 2024, 10:12:24 AMI need to find another set of those aero club vacuform floats. They are very handy.

You're not kidding, a superb set.

Sadly they're as rare as hen's teeth these days, but as I have almost a complete set (mins the BIG ones....) maybe they could be 're-engineered'?

Problem is it's the big floats that I can use. I have the remaining medium and smaller ones too. Our club contest and swap meet is Oct 12 so maybe I'll get lucky there.

What about something with a float option, that the builder won't be using?
I managed to get a set of Italeri Ju-52 floats for my C-47 conversion from a guy who wasn't going to be using the option.

If you can't find something big enough, you could widen and lengthen a smaller set?

I used the largest Aeroclub floats for my RW C-47C conversion, and even then they needed lengthening to get the correct length. Not mentioning installing the landing gear as well...........

And the biggest pain was NOT aligning the floats directly under the engines. Quite why Douglas moved them inboard a tad defeats me, but they did.

Oh yes, and the VAST amount of nose weight that you need, even inside the floats!

Yeah, I know one nosewheel has fallen off, but it's maybe 40 yrs old now.
