The Wooksta!

Got the masking for the upper green last night.

Another legacy build.  I gave it a coat of either Ocean or Dark Sea Grey last year and it's masked in something approximating a Vampire F1 scheme for use as a Vampire unit hack before the powers that be got all arsey about such jollity post war.

Green now on, so more masking.  Depending on which grey I put on the top, I have a choice of either Medium Sea Grey or PRU Blue.  The former is more correct, but could mean more masking to do the Sky bands and possibly yellow leading edges.

I'd rather swerve that and go with PRU Blue, which is my favourite RAF colour and I can use the cool yellow outline roundels for 2nd Tactical Air Force.

Now for more sodding masking...

And it's going to be PRU Blue.

Paintwork largely done, barring some work in the wheel wells and cockpit with a hairy stick.

And underneath.  The racks are from the Hasegawa Me 262 but I won't be adding any drop tanks.

Decals are going on later this week and are going to be stolen from the Special Hobby Vampire F1, for 54 Sqn who flew Vampire F1s.  A check through the books says they were in the Far East for most of the war, then disbanded and reformed by renumbering a different unit.  Same thing could happen in my TL, just not quite the same.
Whether the codes will fit the different fuselage...well, that's another matter.  It'll just get the squadron code and no individual letter.  It's a hack and they rarely had them.

The kit wheels are frankly awful, so they're being replaced with some home cast Ta 152 wheels.

Decals are on, just a few swishes of a hairy stick and I can get a coat of varnish on.

Snag is, the canopy and nose gear have gone walkies.  I've found the u/c doors, I know where the wheels are, just not the other bits mentioned, although I have an idea.

Still, I got one cheap at Bolton that is possibly kit bash fodder (fuselage pod for a Bv P.194.03), so I have spares.

Which I now cannot find.  I did some long needed tidying a few weeks back and the Flitzer has vanished.

Yay!  The cheap Flitzer has been located - inside a late 109K that had been purchased on the same day.  Undoubtedly I'd put it in the same box to cut down on space issues on the return journey from Bolton.

IIRC there's another Legacy one sitting in the loft that needs a repaint.

Legacy one dragged out of the loft, plus a box containing bits for another three.  One has been chopped to do a lengthened two seat trainer.

The cheap one bought at Bolton is likely to be a spares source for three others - at 2 quid, it's cheap enough.  Some of the bits are going on an Airmodel rebox of a CMK Flitzer, based on the later one with the relocated cockpit and a turboprop.  I did have a second but annoyingly sold it on.
