About time, eh?  ;)

Checked with the blog, and it's nigh on five months since I first took the lid off the kit box, following the successful resuscitation of my old Revell J35A. So definitely about time!

Having said that, the Draken build is, in its current form, even older, if only about three weeks, so maybe that could deserve some attention as well..

Captain Canada

Very nice. Any Lightning build is good in my books ! The fin fairing isa nice touch. I love how mean that missile looks in all green like that.
CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

The green Firestreaks were carried by 19 and 92 Sqdn's Lightning F2As based at Gutersloh in Germany, and they painted EVERYthing green, even the bikes to ride round the station!

IIRC our own Dave Kitbasher was there at the time, but his green paint has obviously worn off by now.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I'd have thought especially so. Makes it easier for them to hunt down mice!

It seems the missiles went home to Blighty later on.. ;)

All of the Lightnings and their Firestreaks and Red Tops ended up at RAF Binbrook eventually. Maybe the noisiest airfield in the UK at that time.  ;D

Contemplating radome colour of the SARH Firestreaks, currently having severe issues in choosing between a light brown, almost yellow radome tan, the greenish drab of contemporary Lightning Airpass radars and a slightly redder and darker brown as seen on some old missile radomes I saw at the missile museum. Choices, choices..
Anyway - the Humbrol 159 olive drab worked very well on the Airpass of the old Lightning, so maybe go for a bit of a contrast? Hmm..

I have replaced the underwing pylons from the rather std US launcher units I started with to a more "Lightningesque" setup with forward slanted pylons carrying a launch rail. Also, having had a good think about it, it's not entirely out of question to assume that also a small finned Lightning could have managed a Red Top that far to the rear without excessive yaw issues, so now I'm painting up my Red Top stash as well. I think it'll look alright. If I get the Firestreak radomes to work.

Having painted three missiles with different radome colours, then dry-fitted a bit, mulled a bit, photo-googled a lot, dry-fitted a bit more, I've now decided the missiles will have radome tan (Humbrol 148) tips. The fact that my indecisiveness has to be controlled by exhaustive testing is possibly sound engineering modus, but also rather annoying at times.

Ah, well... next up is painting bombs for the A32D Lansen, and there's so many green hues to choose from. So many hues..  :banghead:

And that's before we even come to the blue's that look like green under some light, and we won't even mention Khaki, oh I just did  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
