Masking tape over the part you want to keep, a very fine saw - like one of the razor blade-sized ones you put in a handle - and going slowly will help.
Also not squeezing the canopy... :banghead:
And a good dose of confidence, of course!  ;)

Maybe start by practicing on a scrap one, or something other than a canopy, but still hollow; could give you a feel as to how to go about it.

Fill the canopy with blutac before cutting it and then tape over the cut line and saw through the tape.  The tape helps stop the blade slipping/jumping and scratching the canopy.

When passing the Airfix stand at the show today I looked at their build of this kit, It looks good, but you can tell that it is too big. I also noticed that a lot of the builds, especially the older ones vintage kits had sink marks over the fuselage pin and socket areas.

I hadn't heard/thought of that - good idea.

Since the primary problem is that it's too wide at the sill, could you use heat to reform it?

Clamp it to a slightly narrower width than what you want (because the plastic will spring back), then heat it with a hairdryer or similar so that it takes the new shape. It'll probably then need some sanding to get the sill line to match again, but that's MUCH easier than trying to sand it narrower.

Canopy didn't fit on either of the last two I built. Last one I built I used a canopy from the 1969 Harrier kit. It was a better fit.

I have just this morning recieved a replacement canopy for the P.1127 from Airfix, any guesses as to what could be wrong with said canopy?
Correct!! It is exactly the same as the original one. Now I know why they didn't answer my question when I asked about them sending me one that would fit.
NICE ONE AIRFIX :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

At least there's a spare one to play with.  Sand the hell out of one to get it to fit and then polish back to clarity.  And the replacement is your reset button.

Ok, so how would Airfix know that a particular part would fit your particular kit? The same part will have gone out with every P.1127 kit. You asked for a replacement part for the P.1127 and, they sent the appropriate replacement part. Sorry but, I don't see the issue here. The poorly fitting canopy has long been an issue with this kit.  I don't see that Airfix has done anything other than reply to your request in the only way they could.

No, I never said that. I told them that the canopy in the kit doesn't fit, and asked if they had knowledge of the fact, and if they had a revised version of the canopy. Going off other forum members comments on the kit, from current and previous releases, the canopy has always been an issue.

That's a good idea.
Try some nail-buffing 3-step pads, they worked well for me.

The Wooksta!

I have a couple of blocks that do the same thing but with four steps.  I got a piece of white metal to a chrome like finish.  Can I find them?  No.
