Fingers crossed here. I was quite taken with the original finish. The decals are ace.
Personally, I have had mixed results from the hairspray distemper method.

Nail this and it will be fantastic.

My problem is knowing when to stop scrubbing.  I usually end up taking off more than I intended.
I'm at work all day tomorrow so i'll have at it with the toothbrush on Satyrday.

I'll have money that's not miss-spelt   ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Day of the Satyr.  It's a more appropriate spelling.

So i had a scrubbing session.

Polar Corsair WIP 19-01-25 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr

I stopped because I thought I had gone too far and removed too much white.  But looking at the pic I think I didn't remove enough.
Which probly means it's just about right.

Oh and both small support skis had to have connections reattached after this.  I've lost count of how many times i've had to re-glue them.

very impressive scrubbing !

That camo looks really good. What paint did you use for the white? Enamel or acrylic? I'd say it worked really well.

Agree, you can always remove more later. Or not...  ;)

The camo is Vallejo acrylic which I sealed with Glass Coat Gauzy Agent (other self levelling floor polishes are available).
I then gave it a coat of Hairspray.
Over that two coats of Vallejo acrylic white (24 hours apart).
I allowed it to dry for another 48 hours (probly over the top) and then rubbed gently (more stroking really) with wet fingers,  As the water soaks through the paint the hairspray lets go and the paint comes off.  It might be necessary to scrub to start with but once the water can get under the edge of the paint then it comes off very easilly.  I ran a toothpick around the control surfaces.

As the underlying paint showed through very glossy I today coated the whole upper surface with a diluted coat of Vallejo Acrylic Matt Clear to remove the shine.
Its nearly done.  I'm onto the fiddley bits now.

Over kill is often very understated .
