Quotethe Luftwaffle tried it as well.  I just don't remember where I read it.

The memories of Heinz Knoke no doubt.

You cannot view this attachment.
The aerial mine was just an explosive version of the barrage bloom really and if no aircraft flew that way then they wouldn't work ...also they only would work against low flying aircraft..imagine these bombs on 30.000 feet of cable trying to get the high fliers 😆 🤣
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I understood that the idea was to drop them in front of approaching enemies. There's 2,000ft of piano wire between main parachute at the top and drogue parachute at the bottom, descending at about 1,000ft/minute.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Quote from: Wardukw on January 27, 2025, 01:13:29 AMI'll bet some where ,sometime someone has thought of this very idea ...and then figured out how damn hard it be to make it work 😆

Fairly sure someone did, including parachute "mines", or proposed them, but can't find any reference to them anywhere.

93 squadron were set up to do it.

What can we do? It's the human condition, the more we get, the less we're satisfied...
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Korsaari.

Korsaari - 6 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr

Amongst the pilots, wingmen, angelhawks, skyrakers, and cumulo-lurkers of the Anarchies of the Scandinihilistic Free Soviets, the Neo-Recusant Flygandemän of Ostrobothnia stood proud and true above the rest.
Operating from the tundra North of the 60º parallel the Flygandemän Hyttynen fiercely defended their clanlands with an aggression and dedication which made them both feared and feted in equal measure.

Korsaari - 3 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr

When the watchers of the Taivaan Silmät sent word that they had detected an incoming fleet of The Adversarys' Air Behemoths the Hyttynen Korsaarit, would swarm to climb above the infiltrators, to dive down upon them, spitting death and vengeance, golden showers of brass cases glittering as they spun away from the ejector ports on the tops of the wings (occasionally bouncing off the tail).  Spinning, twisting, jinking to avoid tracer trails of defensive fire, focussed intently on the airborne giant below, the flygandeman would wait until he was as close as his raw courage let him get before releasing an ilmatorjuntapommi (antiaircraft bomb), kicking, pulling, thrusting at the controls to get clear, falling past before swooping back up to set his spite onto his next target.

Korsaari - 14 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr

Ostrobothnia, what in our geographic reality we would call Northern Finland and the adjoining regions of Norway , Sweden, and Russia, was a land of lakes and tundra.  Eight or nine months of the year the lakes were frozen and there was snow on the ground.  During this time the Hyttynen would operate their Korsaarit on skis from lakes or prepared dressed snow runways.  At the start of The Freeze the upper surfaces of the aircraft would be painted with a white distemper coat which would wear with time and be mostly gone by the Time of the Thaw.  During that part of the year when there was no ice or snow the skis would be replaced with wheels or floats.

The Model
Hasegawa Vought birdcage Corsair (1981 mould).  Rear fuselage shortened by about 6mm or so.  Wings attached upside down.
Engine cowling from Airfix B-25.
Prop from Airfix Fairey Battle.
Scratch built skis.
Ski mounts built from bits from the "undercarriage" parts box – probably mostly Airfix Do-17.
