The manoeuvrability of the Avro Vulcan was excellent, but it also looked like it could be pushed much further toward 'fighter' status. After careful study, it was determined that a canard configuration would allow for even faster movement in the pitch axis, allowing for a faster turnaround after a Blue Steel delivery. A B.2 was modified with a 12'5" fuselage extension, and canards fitted below the flight deck area. Tests showed impressive performance, and 25 new aircraft were ordered. The modification was considered enough to confer a new name, and the Avro Vandal was born, with a two syllable name honouring it's predecessor.

The Kit

CyberHobby 1/200th scale offering. Not a bad kit, but the gaps are a little large. Cockpit detail is unecessary in this scale, but they include a sparse one anyway. There is a crew ladder and ground vehicle as options, and provision for a wheels up build. Recommended for a quick build, so long as you don't try to 'Viggenise' it!

Terrific looker Ratty
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

That looks really good!

'Elegant' is not a word I'd have associated with the Vulcan, but the fuselage stretch makes the Vandal rather elegant.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Thank you all, gentlemen! I had it on the table at SMW, but without the gear, because I was certain it would get broken off after a succession of baggage handlers had their way with my luggage. Nice to finally give her some legs.

I've always thought the Vulcan looked a bit as if she was hunching her shoulders, and needed a longer 'neck'. Nice to see it in plastic.

I also think that the Vandal looks better than the original Vulcan.
