Zoids started off as a toy line from Tomy in the eighties, I bought in jumble sales with my pocket money. There was an anime series around the millennium and the subjects had more beasts. They increased the model range and I bought a few of those as an adult (I still have a Zaber Fang unbuilt somewhere and another I built but is in bits now and has sacrificed some parts for kitbashes. Fun subjects on there own, good as part donors too.

I think the original toy line didn't last as the clockwork didn't work too well and some of the big models were too heavy for it (my smaller ones worked fine). The later ones had chunkier parts and clockwork, the Zaber Fang is quite large and works fairly well.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I'm thinking that, because I don't have the cockpit, I could put a half-transparent ball in between the front "arms". I have several, in a couple of different sizes. It'd be like a manta ray playing with a beach ball.

Quote from: DogfighterZen on February 05, 2025, 11:25:35 PMAnd to put the thread back on track, i'm waiting for some resin bits for my RW PoAF Alouette III and a box with some 1/72 PE and painting mask sets for some projects i'll be starting soon and also, the Answer 1/48 KAI FA-50PH "Fighting Eagle", which is really the Academy T-50 with pylons and a new tail included. I already have the Academy kit but that is the trainer... this one builds the combat capable variant but, it will also give me an extra tail and i do like twin tailed fighters so what if the T-50 had twin tails like the T-7 Red Hawk?

Still waiting for the resin bits for the Alouette III that are coming from a different source but the rest was delivered today. Not in the pic are the Montex masks for the RS 1/72 P-51H that i'm currently building.

You cannot view this attachment.

Kelik 3D cockpit decals and Special hobby mask set for the 1/72 Mirage F.1 single seat kits.
Eduard 1/72 Fiat G.91 PE set and Clearprop mask set for the Meng kit. The Eduard PE set is for the old Revell kit but i believe most of the parts can be used on the Meng kit.

I won the Revell F7U-3 Cutless in the wonderful scale of 1/60th  :o
It's gonna be interesting turning this into something close to 1/48th   ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

Quote from: NARSES2 on February 06, 2025, 03:24:17 AMI built the Tamiya 1/72 Skyray eon's ago, and yes it's a lovely kit.

As for the A Model Yak 27 ? I totally agree with Zenrat, but A Model are the only source for so many Soviet types that they are worth expanding your vocabulary over

Snip... I don't think I've ever even SEEN a Tamiya Skyray!  :o  I've got an Airfix one, but I'll bet that's in a totally different league quality wise....Snip

There may still be some going cheap over in Japan if you have a look. Think one I got was only £4 from memory!

The Big H actually have some in stock still!

Thanks to Thorvic letting me know, they've got one less now.  ;D

A quite large, but very light box arrived in the post just now. Inside was the 3D printed 'Anastasia' kit that I'd ordered just the other day.  ;D

It's HUGE, and much against my better feelings, it looks like it's 1/48 scale. :( I'll be measuring it later to see what scale it really is, if one can actually say it has a scale as the original was fictional of course.

It's printed with filament, so will needed a little smoothing, and it's HOLLOW! The kit's basically in two halves, front and rear, with all the wings and bumps etc glued on later. That'll mean a LOT of work to manufacture an interior, which I fully intend to do, and I'll have to generate the clear windows. The canopies will need some SERIOUS vacforming, but the supplied solid canopies could be used as masters I think.

Here's a pic of the contents of the box, with a Scale Reference Revell Contacta bottle alongside.

It comes with a decal sheet, but quite where they got the idea of the red stripes, the roundels and the Dan Dare badge from I'm not sure. In the Eagle comic the 'Anastasia' only ever appeared in all over NMF with her name across the nose in black.

I will follow this build with considerable interest!

You can be sure, as with most of mine, it will glacial in it's speed............................... :(

Here's the Eagle comic's 'official' cutaway drawing showing all the interior.

Maybe use the fuselage as a buck for the fuselage windows? Otherwise, you might get away with a single sheet of clear material on the inside of the roof.

The fuselage windows are actually recessed into the top of the hull.

I'm thinking of sawing it in half horizontally and cutting the windows out to replace them with clear sheet. I'll have to be very careful, it's not as if I can nip down to Hobbycraft or Models4U and get a spare one!  :o

It might be worth reaching out to someone with a resin printer and getting them to scan and print the canopies in clear; would save you a lot of time.

PR19_Kit

It may indeed, except I don't know ANYone with a resin printer. :(

My mate Pete, who has a couple of filament printers, was looking at the Anastasia with a few intakes of breath. I reckon he's thinking of ways to improve it.  ;D
