The Tempest set is an injection moulded fuselage and vac formed canopy intended for use with the Heller Tempest Mk.5.  I don't have a Heller Tempest Mk.5 but I am sure I can make some wings fit.  Maybe those from the Academy Tempest Mk.5, maybe those from something else.

I dug the Academy Tempest Mk.5 out and offered the wings up to the Mk.1 fuselage.  They should fit with a bit of fettling so I could build this as an in service Mk.1.

The SMER would work as well as it's a Heller clone. it's what I used with mine https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=42335.45 Pictures on Page 4

Yesterday, the latest of the old Revell Draken kits arrived, but this time, it's a late eighties boxing, meaning there's some bad casting requiring attention (annoying!) but also some extras such as a camera nose, tanks, pylons and four horrible Sidewinders. Also, there's a rather extensive but somewhat sloppily researched decal sheet covering all four Draken using nations. You know the boxing, looking like this:

While some of these later add-ons are more useful than the rest (looking at you, sidewinder pylons), this is essentially the same old 1957, horribly inaccurate J35A kit, and as such, basically a whif in a box as it comes, as none of all these extras were ever fitted to any of the early Draken versions.
But sod that. This example will be rebuilt into a trainer Sk35C, so some Heller canopy and ridge parts have already been dug out. Initial cutting and dry fitting says this is doable, albeit requiring some judicious sanding of the too high Heller canopy in order to match the height of the original wind screen. We'll undoubtedly see. But most importantly, all in all, I think I'm looking forward to a fun little build, completing the early Swedish Draken trio. Pics etc will follow, but in the relevant thread.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

As the 'in house' Draken expert, which is the best 1/72 Draken kit these days?

I have only ever done the Airfix one as a RW Danish one.

I saw that on Scalemates (but thanks for the tip).  I have the Academy in the stash so that's what i'll go with.  It became surplus to requirements when I got my hands on some of the KP kits.

I have only ever done the Airfix one as a RW Danish one.

Hands down the now 30 years old Hasegawa casting.

As can be seen >>HERE<<, they're also available in three different Revell boxings (NOT to be mixed up with the one I got yesterday!) and also something from "Hobby 2000", whatever that is. These kits are nigh on perfect, however totally lacking armament, so all but drop tanks will have to be sourced separately. Also, the different tail cones, with different flare- or chaffdispensers and in the Danish case, an arrester hook, are available in resin if you don't want to scratch the add-ons yourself. That is, as far as antennae and dispensers go, not too difficult for the average whiffer, though. Further, Danish and  Austrian Draken had another fin tip carrying some ECM gear, and that's also not in any kit issue but can be sourced separately, as can wing tips with antennae for the Danish WDNS upgrade.  Last but not least - the Swedish and Danish camera noses differ slightly, and the later Danish LRTMS nose is yet another design, neither catered for in the Hasegawa kit. For any Swedish or Finnish interceptor, however, the kit is magnificent.
For the RW builder, one should also notice that the Swedish SARH Falcon Rb27 missile NOT is the standard GAR-3,as in the Hasegawa F-102/F-106 kits, the same manufacturer's weapons kit or the Airfix Draken kit, but rather the fatter GAR-11B, which I've only seen as a ridiculously expensive and complicated resin/etch kit from Maestro (I think). The IR Rb28 is however physically similar to the GAR-2 of the Hasegawa weapons kit and, if a bit anorectic, the Airfix Draken kit.

An attractive aircraft
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

PR19_Kit

Thanks for that Mr. Pellson, I'll have a look for one.

Interesting that Revell released the same kit, while also having one of their own! That will take some checking out to avoid the Non-Hase-copies.

So a bit of a panic purchases before all the craziness kicks in. Besides Whiffing, 1/72 F-4 Phantoms are my other modeling obsession and so I had these on the wish list for a while and figured I should probably pick them up now from HobbyLink Japan. I also bought a boatload of Atom paints from Mig Ammo in Spain. I had been replacing my Vallejo stuff as needed but given how both could get much more expensive figured I'd just invest now. I should be good with paint for the next 10yr.  ;D

Finally I got a bunch of spare parts for my Gaahleri airbrushes, just cause you never know. Just need to grab an extra bottle or two of Tamiya Extra-Thin and maybe couple rolls of masking tape I should be good to ride out this silliness.  :o
