Back in 1986 I joined Uncle Sam's Canoe Club - the US Navy.  They, once the dotted line was well and truly signed, moved me completely across the country to Groton, CT and put me in a barracks with three other blokes - none of whom were model builders.
The local Navy Exchange (think "department store just for the Navy") did carry a few models, and after a few weeks I couldn't stand it anymore, and bought a Revell 1/32 Kittyhawk.  Not my preferred company, scale, or aircraft, but not the worst, either.  A few brushes & a some daubs of paint later plus a short length of monofilament fishing line, and I had this lady hanging from the ceiling of my barracks room.  I was a bit worried about what the room inspectors might think, but none of them blinked or told me to take it down, so there it stayed.
Fast forward to now.  Done, done, and done with the Navy; married and bought a house, and unpacked all my models, some of which had been boxed since 1986.  This model was amongst them, and missing the sliding part of the canopy.  Since I had to order a replacement for the Meteor Mashup, I just ordered a canopy for this desert lady, too.

She's a paint-whif.  I saw a photo of a Messerschmitt in the desert - this one

and thought that instead of solid blobs I'd try leopard spots - sort of an experimental desert camo.
I still have some work on this ancient lady - the decals only went on today, and need sealing.  Some damage needs to be repaired, not least the holes on the spinner need filling and then repainted.  I don't think I still have that cream-colour, so I might just change it - I believe a dusty red was common ...

Where am I going?  And why am I in a handbasket?

The Grand Forks BX (the Air Force version of the NEX) was the same way - random scales and models, mostly Revellogram.  I, too, had some of them hanging up, like a 1/72 Flanker doing a gun pass on the B-52D.  I do miss the rivety as 'ell 1/32 P-47D that I stuck the FFAR pods from the same scale Apache on the underwing hardpoints.

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .
