Can anyone ID this aircraft?

How good are your ID skills?

This is a cropped blown up shot from another photo:

The Lowry stick figure is underneath the tail of something, but I'm not quite sure of what.  The photo has been cropped down from this one of a Highball Mosquito.

I do know that the tailplanes on whatever it is are higher up than that of a Mosquito and the tailwheel is decidedly longer too.  I want to say it's a Barracuda, which is possible as 618 did have some, but knowing that 618 also flew Beaufighter IIs in the UK leads me to think it's the latter.  If so, it does indicate that 618 Beau's were in the night fighter Med Sea Grey/Dark Green scheme rather than overall Night.

I can't make either link work Lee. :(

As I posted them direct from my hard drive.  You can't see them?

Edit: resaved as jpegs, rather than png files.  Try now?

I think the diagonal line is a wing leading edge and with a twin leading edge landing light.  Beaufighter, I think.

No, because all I can see is the thumbnail at the bottom of the page and nothing else.

Edit: I can see them now, no idea though what the aircraft is.

Did a little work on it to increase the contrast, see if this helps.

I'd say Beaufighter.

Maybe a TF.X?  I can see contrast between the upper an lower colours, so possibly Day Fighter Scheme?

Thanks, Ratty.  Definitely a Beau with that twin light.

If it's with a Highball Mosquito, it makes me think it's more likely a II, as 618 had a trio of rather worn ones in 1943 - I have the serials somewhere - and some of the IIs got the dihedral tail.  Not sure if the three that 618 got had them, but annoyingly the one I have converted doesn't.

If it was Barracuda we would have been able to see the dive flaps some distance below the trailing edge in that view, so I reckon you're right about it being a Beaufighter.

Yup, the light makes me think Beau'
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The shape of the tail makes me say Beaufighter, plus the Beau has a slightly longer, narrower tail wheel assembly than the Barracuda. But it's mostly the tail shape. ;)

Definitely a Beaufighter..you can see a pitot tube under left hand wing.
In exactly the same place as the Beaufighter.
