Would the 6 wheeled Tyrrell racing car be considered as a bad idea?

Did it go fast enough? How many times did it race? Since I don't recall seeing it on a track anywhere I think it would qualify as an idea that didn't work out very well.

The K-Class submarine.  Non-nuclear steam turbine powered subs, probably the worst idea.

Already done one of those, wanted to depict it after the K-4 ran aground on a proving cruise.

Real life gives a great way to display a complete submarine without resorting to a stand, which to my mind, look a bit naff.

I had a model of the Tyrrell 6 wheeler F1 car ...ive seen being raced at Monaco and at the Goodwood festival of speed .
The car was built at a time where anything and everything was tried and tested 🙃
Aerodynamics was still not that effective on F1 in the early days so the designers were playing with any idea they could come up for better handling and still keep the speed .
The Tyrrell 6 wheeler was one of those ideas .

The Tyrell P34 worked quite well, and won the 1976 Swedish GP, and the other P34 was second. I'd say that was a GOOD idea.

And like such things in F1, the FIA banned it.......................

For truly weird or bad ideas, I've thought recently of some of the vehicles and contraptions that were shown on the covers of Popular Mechanics magazine. Usually issues from 1920's or so to about 1960's. Lots of really weird stuff.
Or how about vehicles and contraptions that were shown at various World's Fairs during the late 19th or early 20th centuries? Some of those World Fairs usually had exhibits that showcased inventions and technologies of the future, but never really materialised.

There's been so many bad ideas in the military world you could write several very thick encyclopedias just on that subject alone.
From tanks with fully exposed hydraulic ram suspension so they can cross any ground to keep the turret level to the ridiculous pogo tank 🙄
The list would be bloody close to endless.

Gives me an idea for the roadcar or track day car. Of course there's the Panther 6 not really a British best seller as only two were built.

Honest, I'm really NOT trying to be a revolting pedant, but would a really good idea, such as a VTOL fighter  (a Harrier for instance)  but appallingly badly designed and executed (a Rockwell XFV-12  for example)  be appropriate/ acceptable in this build?

It was competitive, depending on the track. It just wasn't superior to 4-wheeled cars - and had some issues due to the 6 wheels.

That magazine cover's interesting, and not just for the tracked bike.

It's dated Feb 1938 and the top leader line is about fibreglass!
