The texture stuff is a good idea! I use Rustoleum Terra cotta texture paint. Best if I spray it on lightly and use just one coat of color paint.
I brought some Ammo texture putty ages ago and when we were talking about your floor that popped into the head
What I'm thinking is making it patchy ..areas where it's worn off from wear and tear ...should give a good effect.

I saw that in a pic of the top of a Bradley turret. Almost bare metal showing through in a few spots. It would be an interesting weathering experiment.

I'll cut a rectangle of plastic and play around with it. If it works out, and I'm pretty sure it will, I'll just drop it in later.

That does work but theres a few things to be aware of...the paper itself is part of the problem..it's thick and if can sink it into the panel it's being stuck to it's sticks out like dogs tangley bits and then there's the gluing part..the best sand paper is automotive wet and dry ..a very good selection of grits ..but it's also designed to be strong when wet..glue really has issues holding this stuff down and even with CA it will lift quite easily.
Some types even have a wax like backing to help protect the paper ..that stuff is even worse .

I cut the bed to size for the rear platform. I may start calling it the veranda. Now I have two thirds of a truck bed left over. I'll make a cast of the tailgate for a spare and I've already built a new frame around the tailgate area on the left over portion. I'll use it for a trailer or something.
The veranda has enough room for the spare tire. I'll need a device to lift it off of there to the ground. Then it's time for the boarding ladder.

I've already thought about the spare wheel problem..im gonna make a crane like ya find on M1070 or the HEMTT...it's simple ..
The trailer ya should build and stuff it behind the Slammer

I need more wheels. Time to get good at two part casting. Or some 1/32nd scale truck wheels. There's a show coming up in April that might have some wrecks for sale.
The truck comes with the crane device that sits between the cab and the bed. I'll try to repurpose that.

I drove a old Pacific P12 6x6 donkeys ago with a spare wheel belong the cab..the crane was a simple design which is pretty much exactly the same as the military ones .
This one was heavy guage steel tubing which is curved at the top..this one was fitting with a removable chain hoist ..a little tiny one  ;D
The military ones have a hand cranked cable hoist mounted on the back of the crane but it's basically the same thing.
Good luck at the show mate..hope ya find what your looking for
