Hehehe, very true, but driving afterwards is a bit bouncy.  ;D

Just a slight disaster with the Dalgety.......... :-(

As I've been PSRing and filing the wing/engine combination, various exhaust stubs have broken off at various times. (Yeah, I know I shouldn't have glued them in place originally, but you live and learn) I replaced two of them with some short lengths of 10 amp fuse wire and bent them to the correct angle, but then a 3rd and 4th one snapped off, so I thought the hell with this, I'll chop them ALL off and replace them with some resin add-ons.

Except no-one does resin exhausts for Griffons, not Spitfire XIV/XIX ones anyway. So I've ordered a set for a Spitfire IX, that should do the job, and it's on the other side from the starboard wing so it shouldn't look too different. Anyway, the Big H only had ONE set of Spit IX exhausts!

Thinking I'd better get the nacelle ready for the new exhausts I started to chop ALL the olds ones off and drill and file slots for the new ones, and in the process I snapped the entire engine off the wing!  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

At least it makes it easier to file the new exhaust's slots I guess, but it's a pain nonetheless.

Is THIS what you are looking for Kit? Available through various retailers.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

It was exactly that one, yes, but no-one I looked at seemed to have any in stock.

Still, I've got the Spitfire IX ones coming now, and I'll see how different they look before searching again.

Hmm, both turn out to be wildly expensive once the p&p and minimum orders are taken into account. Thanks for the links, but I think I'll see how the Spit exhausts work before I go any further.

I will check when I get home but I might have some exhausts from that kit that would be available Kit, no promises though.

Hm, so much for that idea............  :banghead:

I tried the resin Spitfire Mk IX exhausts in the port engine of the Dalgety, and while they're smaller than the proper Griffon exhausts, there wasn't that much difference, and looking from one side to the other you'd be hard pressed to notice.

But............

No sooner had I got one side of them in place when the remaining exhaust snapped in half and one half has vanished totally. I really don't think the idea of a V9 engine would work too well............. :(

I will get into the loft tomorrow and dig out a pair of exhausts for you, I might be able to find a second set and get them posted to you by the start of next week Kit.

I'd be inclined to leave the exhausts off, from now on, until all the rough handling is done. :banghead:

I'm definitely doing that, I was just trialling them for fit y'day.

But good 'Ole Alastair has come up trumps with an offer to send me lots of correct exhausts, so expect a bunch of radial engined Spitfire XIVs to appear from Scotland soon, or maybe even jet powered ones!  :o
