What Narses and me were writing is that there is NO penalisation for voting for your own.

Precisely sir, thank you

Quote from: McColm on April 09, 2025, 07:17:51 AMWhat happens if you have more than 10 proposals  and you've only got 10 votes? Besides some of them are in the category "I wish that I had thought of that or that's a good idea '.

Right. Firstly as for the number of votes you get. It all depends on how many proposals there are. It's not fixed, indeed to be honest it's fairly arbitary and depends on what I think is a reasonable ratio of votes to proposals. You have to trust me on that.

As for the number of proposals made by an individual ? Can I simply suggest that you write down your ideas, give it a day, and then revisit them. You'll be surprised at how this enables you to both whittle things down whilst improving those you end up proposing.

I'm not saying you shouldn't make "left field" proposals, I'm just saying you should think about them for a bit and consider the likelyhood of them making Round 2 before proposing them.

Thinking about this (I thought I retired 18 years ago  :banghead: ) and trying to get a grasp of what you are talking about, the only way around this is to automaticaly start the Poll with each proposal having 1 vote with the membership still having 10 votes each (in this case). It avoids the stigma, if indeed it is one, of a proposal getting zero votes, but at the end of the day changes nothing.

If I don't forget them before I write them down! Seriously, that's a high probability!

Warren Oates?? As Private Eye would say, 'shureley shome mishtake'?

As for GB ideas reaching the vote stage, wouldn't it be easier just to vote on those that have been seconded?

A formal 'seconded' call by someone could be the solution, equally a simple 'I like that idea' could be enough.

What if the most popular suggestion in the first round and second round automatically goes through to the final round? As sometimes people's decisions may change.

One question I've been meaning to ask is what the hell is the Ploughshares into Swords GB about ???

I'm guessing its turning some which ain't a weapon into one ?

That's exactly what happens (and has in the past).

As Chris has explained, at the end of round 1 he'll apply a cut-off score and anything above that will go into round 2.  Chris always explains his cut-off rationale so everything will be transparent.

Vote as you see fit in round 2.  If you've changed your mind, so what - vote for what you prefer in round 2.  If there's nothing there you like the idea of then don't vote.

If there's lots there you like the idea of then vote wisely, you'll only have a specified number of votes.

Short answer, Phill: Yes, it's turning a non-weapon into a weapon (tractor into a tank (your countryman, Bob Semple, did that ... Sort of)).

The opposite of "Swords into Ploughshares"; which is turning weapons into non-weapons (tanks into tractors, etc.)

OK, so if you do that then you end up alienating anybody who didn't vote for those two choices and thus in reality is restricted to one vote. Also people change their minds about things when they've had a chance to reflect on what GB they might, or might not enter.
