There is a brief mention in Tony Buttlers BSP:Bombers, so perhaps there is some more data or brochures to go with your drawing.

Looks like a development of the Wing BAE did for the Mitsubushi T-2. But the Super jag should also have more powerful engines with a bigger diameter and larger intakes.

Cheers

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Ah - the mysterious Big Wing Jaguar. This was proposed by BAe in the seventies about the time they offered a new big wing for the Harrier GR3 instead of the Harrier II.

I feel a model coming on.

Does anyone know if the larger inlets were just deeper or wider or both?  It'd help in making an "educated guess" (a SWAG as opposed to a WAG) as to the configuration.  Of course the other question was did they stay pitot inlets or get redefined along the lines of the Tornado's inlets?

As I recall, the Big Wing Jag would have had no change to inlets or engines, being a straight re-winging of existing airframes.

Don't know about the Super Jag though.

I'm not sure about that. I think I'Ve read somewhere that it was also planed to reengine it with the RB.199 .... but is'nt this engine much larger in diameter ???

By the way ... I just found a small Chinese "Jaguar-class" fighter .... can someone translate please !!

Deino,

I think the "Super Jag" that Nigel mentioned is the one with the RB.199's.  I can see that as an evolutionary development of the "Big-Wing" Jag.

Just my $0.02,
Evan

H*ll that looks EXAXCTLY like the proposed stretched Mirage F1 the Dassault put forward in the late seventies/early eighties.... Scarey !

The idea of souping up the Jag with RB199's was the more 'far out' option or several.

That chinese thing looks like a Mirage F1 type scaled up with twin engines, very nice IMO.
To win without fighting, that is the mastry of war.

Sure that model isn't the JH-7 Flying Leopard in PLAAF colours (currently only used by the PLAN) as a replacement for the Shengyang strike aircraft. ?

As for the SuperJag, yes RB199 were consindered, some replacement designs had a Jag type airframe with a single RB-199 (plus a lift engine and deflected thrust for really STOL performance). Plus a direct replacement with the airframe modified to accespt the larger diameter and the intakes redasigned to allow more Air in and a better super sonic performance.

According to Joe the P96F Tempest II was the actual preferred choice as the Jaguar replacement before that requirement was merged with our ACA program and then into the Eurofighter program.

the Chinese text said:"Prototype of juxtapositional-seated Flying Leopard(AKA FBC-1/JH-7/FB-7/) for PLAAF"

Deino

Thanks a lot ... and nice to meet You here "newca"  :)

... but that makes me wonder as - even with "some" resemblance to the real JH-7 the standard fuselage is much too narrow to fit two seats side by side !!

Any idea !???

Hey~ meet you everywhere

As you know, the FBC-1/JH-7 has some relationship to F-111 back to its early days, and the battle purpose of PLAAF and PLAN is different, so 2 types of prototype were considered, at last, the real FBC-1/JH-7 is much Jaguar like due to Sino-UK "sweet moon" period back to later 1980's.

Here is the only pic I can find of side-by-side JH-7, maybe you have seen it.
