Here are some pics of my new model I finished over a week ago, a 1/48 scale Monogram Me 262.

I wanted to try and copy the paint job seen on the Me 262 ''black X'' W. Nr. 500200 and a couple of the Me 262's operated by JV 44.

A few late war Me 262's were given a single coat of a dark camouflage color over the uppersurfaces of the bare metal that was thin enough that the dark gray putty used to fill the panel lines were visable under the paint. Undersurfaces were left in NMF.

I first sprayed AlcladII on the model in three different shades on various panels and then brush painted dark gray on all the panel lines.
After all the paint was dry I airbrushed a thin coat of RLM 82 on the uppersurfaces only, the nose and engine nacelles were given camouflage paint and colors slightly different to depict replacement parts taken from other Me 262's (a common occurance late in the war).

After looking at all known photographs of JV 44 I chose to mark my model as ''white 9'', an aircraft that they did NOT have and used spare decals to come up with the W. Nr. 111856.

The X-4 rockets came from my Ta 183 kit that I built last year.

Wish I could show you what is on the work table right now, I know you guys would like it!

I have to get back to my airbrush now and do more painting.

Of course I jest (you jest what? "I jest said what!"), top stuff as always fella!

Thanks for the very kind words Davey B. and Ian!

The experiment using the AlcladII base coat under the thin coat of paint worked well.
I will be trying this on a few of the Japanese models I have in my stash.

That's awful purty.  The NMF under the paint looks like it worked perfectly.  A very handsome model indeed.

I do have one question for you.  In these ultra-realistic diorama shots, have you thought about or tried flattening the tires a hair just to push the envelope of believeability a hair further?

Anyhow, your work is an inspiration for us all.

Sisko

Nice job!!!

Hey matrixone where did the missiles come from?

Get this Cheese to sick bay!

Thanks noxioux!

The main gear wheels are flattened slightly but the nose wheel is barely flattened at all as you can see, the main reason I did this is after looking at many wartime photographs of airworthy Me 262's the nose wheel is very round looking and looks like it is fully inflated and/or has very little weight put on it.
Some Me 262A-2a's showed the nosewheel slightly flattened when they had their bombs loaded on the a/c.

The Monogram Me 262 kit has its main gear legs molded slightly too long giving the finished model a slight nose down attitude, if I would have flattened the nose wheel it would have made this problem more noticeable.

Thank you Sisko!

The X-4 air to air rockets came from the Amtech Ta 183 kit.

Again Matrix another f.......ing outstanding model. When they look that real, well then they're just perfect!
Your photography skills as always do your models the justice they deserve, and that base is awesome. How big is it by the way? 'cos it gives the subjects such great perspectve.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!

Keep 'em coming I always look forward to your postings.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Leigh,
Thank you very much for the kind words about my work!

My photobase is about 3 ft by 3 ft. in size and is made from plywood sheet scraps I purchased from a local lumber yard. The backdrop is airbrushed poster paper.

If you like the pictures of the Me 262 I posted, you are really going to like what is on my work table now! It is far better than that 262, I will post pics of it in two to three weeks from now.

Aw, c'MON!!!  So real it's "UNreal"!

I can't do that.   Unfair!

Another kit finished while I'm yet stuck puttying and sanding.   Unfair!

On an outstanding diorama base, yet.  Unfair!

But I can't wait to see the next one...   ^_^

Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Ever thought that if the Germans had built them as quick and as well as Matrix how close we would have been to losing the war?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
