Thanks John, Leigh, and NARSES2!

John,
There was plenty of putty and sanding on this older Monogram kit, the wing root area was sanded quite a bit in order to allow the wings to have the proper dihedral. If built straight from the box the wings would be too flat.
Other areas needed some putty and sanding but was not a problem because the full size Me 262 had most of its surfaces smoothed out with putty so my model did not lose any surface detail.
Despite the extra work involved in building this model I am still a big fan of these older Monogram kits.
Another old kit that is still my all time favorite is the 1/48 scale Revell Bf 109G-10/U4, if carefully built this model looks very good compared with the new kits of this a/c.

I never get tired of seeing your stuff. I sometimes find it hard to respond because I keep seeming to say the same things and I don't want to sound trite.

At the risk of sounding trite...

Wow. I love it!

IMWFO,

Thanks for the comments and thanks for looking at my work!

Can't wait to post pics of my current model under construction! It might be the best model I ever built.

BRILLIANT!!
I love Monogram kits.....there's always a join somewhere that's a pig, but their quality makes them special

Fantastic '262.

Thanks Radish!

These old Monogram kits make very nice ''what if'' models, if they don't turn out like you want them to its not that costly.

Excellent faded paint effect on that fuselage.  Very streaky and realistic  B)

Ok so shall we all sit down and read the superlatives dictionary now ?

I totally agree with IMWFO, you do start thinking your comments are trite when really you are lost in admiration.

As for Monogram, I built a lot of them in the 60's as a teenager, and they were a class above everything else available in the UK at the time. Still have very fond memories of them  :)

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks greg, nev, and Chris!

greg,
Sorry I missed your reply on Friday, thank you for your comment.

nev,
This new weathering technique I tried on the Me 262 will work well on Japanese a/c models too and I will build one next year.
Also crashed or damaged airplanes in aircraft graveyards should look great with the worn looking paintwork.

Chris,
The old Monogram Me 262 and Do 335 kits are still good models, even their old Ju 87G is worth having around. The same can't be said for the Me 109E and Fw 190 kits, they were fine when I was a kid but they are not worth building now.

Another old kit that I really like is the 1/48 scale Revell Bf 109G-10/U-4, if I see them on sale I will buy them. With very little effort and some modern paint and decals they can still look very good compared with the new Hasegawa kits.
