In this alternate universe, the Wyvern was a great success, and the US Navy arranged to buy a bunch, made in the US by Martin (they used their B-57/Canberra experience ).

The USAF thought it would make a good COIN fighter for VN, so they contracted with Martin to rebuild a group in the mid 60s - deleted the wing fold, rebuilt the wing and added 8 pylons, added tip tanks, deleted the horizontal stab barbs, bigger engine, etc.

The result was an excellent replacement for the A-1 in the Sandy role.  Here is an un-finished Trumpeter kit that I sort of threw together this weekend.  Looks a bit like a larger Piper Enforcer.

Who would have thought a Wyvern could look so nasty and threatening?!

Wow!  Can we have a pic from underneath, too, please?

This is so cool!

You threw that together this weekend?  You make it sound/look so easy.   :o  :o

Does she suit a sharksmouth or what ?

I can see what you mean about the "Enforcer" as well

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks for the comments.  This was a quick build, and I took several short cuts, but it still looks OK.  I have yet to touch up the exhaust pipes, and need to spray it with Dullcote, but otherwise it is fairly complete.

This is a a great kit (Trumpeter), and it goes together very well.

Here is the 'companion' Wyvern, along with a "What if" USAF F-8 version.

Does she indeed. I think my RAF version is going to have to have a sharks mouth you know. Now, I gotta find one... ;)  ;)  ;)

Lancer, the Revell 1/72 scale P-51B kit has two very nice sharksmouths of different styles on the decal sheet. The kit itself is quite nice, but they are fairly cheap and using one option leaves you with a spare.

I think one of my Wyverns will be a RAAF 4 Flight FAC version now...

Will be nice marking targets for the BAC TSR-2 Eagles..... ;)

To answer the questions about the sharkmouth decals, the sharkmouth for the Wyvern came from Microsoft 72-76, a sheet I have had for a long, long time.  This was an F-4 sheet, and most of the other markings came from that sheet as well (that's the nice thing about the What if world - no rules, just right!!)

The sharkmouth on the F-8 came from Aeromaster 72-153, which is still available, I believe.

This is a test of posting a photo.  The F-8 was an old, old Fujimi that was laying around, so I literally threw it together in about an hour.
