This is the 1/72 Hobbycraft CF-105 kit.  The nose is from a Hasegawa RF-4E.  The burner cans are from F-16s, the Intakes are from a Hasegawa F-15C.  Canards are from the Italeri Berkut.  Loooooootttttts of sanding and filling to go before I can even think about ordnance or camouflage scheme.  Next puzzle, the bubble canopy.

I am probably going to get stalked by people with Hockey sticks wearing maple leafs and drinking Labatts Blue....

Nah, it's too warm for them.  Plus, the lack of hockey this past year has led them to concentrate on other premier sports, like curling and debating which is better, Molsen or Labatt's.  Honestly, a drunk hockey fan is easier to handle than a drunk curling fan.  I mean, I know HOW to handle a hockey fan.  Curling fans are just scary, with their papier-mache rocks, and air horns, and brooms...

Sweet CF-105, though!  I just got done painting the first coat onto my first mostly unmodified CF-105.  I gotta say, I was totally surprised as to the size of the Arrow.  The thing's as big as a moose!  'Dem canucks know how ta build a plane, doncha know!  Can't wait to see yours completed!

Great!  Good idea to create canards from delta, like the Mirage family gave birth to the KfirC2 and Rafale. And playing with Canadian heroes is a tribute to them, not an insult. I just try to imagine what will come from the canardless Berkut kit... Maybe moving the wing forward to restore balance...

We shall see...Especially after I hang on some ordnance and Desert Camouflage (similar to the F-18s sold to the Spaniards that used to be Aggressors).
Besides, it makes sense to use canards.  Most modern Delta wingers seem to have them, so it stands to reason that the CF-105 would have had some added as an "improvement package".  Same with the bubble canopy- the original canopy doesn't seem to have enough visibility.

I really like the lines on that puppy.  Something about the basic shape combined with the canards just screams out 60's supertech to me.  Or what we thought supertech might look like in the 60's.  I'm a sucker for a design like that.

There is still more stuff (technology) from the late 1980's early 1990's that still needs to be added to the RCF-105.  We shall see what the reaction is at that point in time.

Dragon, rather than a bubble canopy, I think I'd go with back-hinged blown canopies similar to the ones retrofitted to the F-106 late in it's career and a windscreen with reduced framing. (Note: This wouldn't be that much different from the canopies used by Republic's F-105F/G.  Now you might see if you can find drawings of the F-105C and F-15E proposals, as I remember, those 2-saeters had different canopy arrangements from what was eventually used on the F-105F/G).

At first I had thought of using a two seater hornet canopy, but it looks too big on that fuselage.  I have been thinking of modifying the actual canopy that came with the kit to resemble the arrangement as found on the Hornet (although some would argue that it is more like that found on the Phantom).  A little sandpaper here and there (fine grades somewhere along the line) and a bit of future and things ought to be okay.

To each his own, I figure to build one of my Arrow kits (either vac-form or injection molded) with the improved canopies I suggested.  I'm tempted to do a recce version in 1/48 using a recce pallet in place of a a weapons bay pallet; the conversions for RF-111C/G's should do that nicely (I'm not sure if such a conversion is still available in 1/72).

elmayerle,
Your idea has a lot of merit, however the only reason I am thinking of modifying the kit's own canopy is the fact that I have that canopy.  I would rather not purchase another kit (I am about to sink another $20 for another Airfix 1/144 DC10-30 because of a badly warped wing in the original kit that was even more warped than my imagination, which my feeble attempts at unwarping provided disastrously negative results.), just for its canopy, however if I do mess up the original canopy your plan becomes active.

Regards

I wager forty Quatloos for your unused kit parts!

Do you want to get rid of them???

Maybe after I am done building the DC10-30 "Properly" (not a What-If? this time around).  The port wing looks like something Godzilla had as a snack.  Boiling water was just too much the wing.  Imagine a piece of mozarella cheese cut in the shape of a large wing, and then put on 30 or so seconds of microwave activity....That's what the wing looked like after dipping it in full boiling water for a second or two.
