Well, turns out Alumalite ™ resin definitely DOES have a shelf-life.

Had some five molds ready for casting-pours tonight.  Checked out my "old" stock of Alumalite two-part resin.  Upon pouring part "A" (or is it part "B"?) into it's initial mixing container, I thought, "That's funny, it almost appears to be curing on its own."  But that's not possible without the catalyst of the other part.

I got as far as:
- one good vac-formable master for my Morsair canopy (see that thread for a pic),
- one fairly crappy casting of my elongated Mustang nose (sorry, Jeffry),
and then the stuff started to cure right as I was pouring it into another mold.

I kept thinking it looked like a resin tongue.  It's even rough on one side.  Kinda foamed up, too.  That embryonic shape down in the bottom right of the pic is the other canopy I was trying to cast.  The resin literally hardened as it was in motion, like a lava river cooling.

Bizarre and Disgusting.

And a waste of about $20 worth of overpriced Alumalite, too.   <_<

Elongated T-51 Sentinel (Mustangish) nose cowl. Air bubbles galore.
Not good enough to send you, Jeffry.   :(
I'm not too confident my "newer" batch of Alumilite is that much better, either.
Might be time to get some new stuff and use it right away this time!

AARRGGHH...hate it when stuff like that goes on...frustrating, I am sure!!!

Are you going to try the second batch, or just pitch it?

I had the part "A" of some silicone rubber stuff go the thing I'm not allowed to say me after sitting for a while.  The part "B" never did, though.  Strange, huh?

stick with it barry - get yerself some new stuff and throw a couple of them together...as soon as you get one that looks right, all this will seem as nothing

Oh, I kept going, using the newer resin.
They're coming along.

And I'm tempted to put the Resin Tongue De Jour on ebay as a filming prosthetic for Gene Simmon's (at some point, he's gotta get tired of sticking his tongue that far out of his head!)

Or you could make a 3-D version of the Rolling Stone Album cover...You know, 40 Licks.
