Couple of pictures of my CAC built Typhoon IB Trop of 79 Squadron RAAF Java July 1945.

In 1943 the RAAF was looking for a ground attack aircraft and settled on the Typhoon IB. CAC undertook tropicalisation (Engine and cockpit cooling, extra protection angainst the climate etc) and first deliveries were made in late 1944.

The aircraft of 79 Squad tended to operate in mixed flights of bomb and rocket armed aircraft. The bomb armed planes would clear the "cover" with 1,000lb high explosive blast bombs whilst the rocket armed would take out bunkers with there 60lb SAP's

Nice one Chris! Great job, interesting to see a Typhoon in something other than the usual camo I like it.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Beautiful looking Tiffie Chris. Love the Foliage Green over white. , very striking.  Makes you wonder why the Tiffie was never used out in the far east don't it??

Shortage of airframes I would imagine.  I remember reading about the time a Spitfire squadron was asked for volunteers to fly Typhoons...no one volunteered due to the high loss rate in the dangerous low-level CAS mission.

But a Tiffie in DE/DG with white ID bands and SEAC roundels sounds super!

Nice job chris.  :D  it looked good at gateshead..

Ive got an Airfix one on the go at the mo..tank buster with a difference.  its getting the 40 mils off a Hurricane IID.( the tiffiy kit donated its 20 mils to the ossi corsair i did eariler in the year).  Desert airforce paint job as well....now at least one tiffiy was trialed in Egypt and wore Dark earth/mid stone over azure blue...so im thinking 6 sqn over libya kicking Rommels butt back to Tunis. the other option i came up with was a tac recci bird in PRU blue, but ive maxed out on recci birds this year..time for something with teeth.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

I was a bit worried when the flash went off Ian - I'll have to read the instructions - now where did I put them ???

As for the kit, it's a nice fun build. No problems with fit (other then one I caused myself) and goes together quickly.

I've seen a photo of a Tempest with twin 40mm's fitted (not Vickers "S" guns - mor like slim fuel tanks) so not to far fetched Martin. It'll look good in a Desert scheme.

As for the recon version - I've got the SAM conversion for that so I may do my SEAC one as the Recce bird to replace Hurricane II's
