What's the little inlet over the starboard intake for? There isn't one on the port side.

And doesn't it have an afterburner? I'd have thought they'd have used it during a blast deflector test.

Just wondering if that aperture on the starboard side isn't for the gun?  There's staining aft of it which would suggest something's happening there.

I assume you mean this one:

The intake is there to provide air to the fuel/air heat exchanger.

Gun is on the Port side of the A's:

Yes, it does have an afterburner.  You might find that the use wasn't part of this particular test or simply that it isn't envisaged that the afterburner will be used in operations - remember that the F-135 has a LOT of dry thrust.

Now they need to sort out a fix for the arrestor hook and it will be carrier capable  :banghead:

Glad we switched from the B to the C as the longer wings and beefier grear do make it look the part

Greg,

Right, thanks for the info on the bulges. It looks like the gun has a retractable shield over the muzzle as there's no sign of a hole for the shells to exit in the first piccies.

And the supposed problem being?

But why the staining on the inlet?  If it's an inlet, I wouldn't assume staining would occur.

I see the fairing over the gun on the port side in the load trainer.  Is that a 'stealth' issue having the fairing over the muzzles?

It might not be staining, per se.  Rather I suspect its a combination of shading and shadow, Mav.  Basically, its just the angle you're viewing it from IMO.

Presumably that won't stop and they'll fall off the edge of the deck when landing-on........

What I was getting at was, who said there was any problem with the arrestor hook on the aircraft now?
