QuoteIf/when you meet me and any of my colleages, you will realise with absolute, crystalline clarity that the VERY last people in this country that should be given any sort of weapon, be it a BB gun or an XF-35 are the members (perhaps that should read 'inmates') of Her Majesties Coastguard.
Same really goes for the USCG.  I have memories of talking to the helmsman/navigator aboard a cutter a few years ago, and his story about how one of the CG Helos out of Traverse City mooned the ship on numerous occarasions, and the captain's response (mass mooning by the crew).  Then there's the Coasties that were at the Selfridge Air Show in '91 that were overserving themselves and having a good ol' time.  At one point, one of them got ahold of a bullhorn.  The next airshow, the Coasties were exiled to the butt end of the base, and have been there since.

Amen, Brother Lance !

Always thought that would be a good way to send a message. Of course, you'd have to fire a few warning shots and give them plenty of time to abandon ship.....
Why???
What the gits are doing is a form of piracy, and thus they should be treated like pirates. If a few survive, then hang 'em from the nearest yardarm!!!!! Of course that only applied to said miscreants, not the pirates that reside on here. :ar:  :ar:  :ar:

Well, I guess this shows that the coasties know how to have fun..

Yeah, it does.  Even exiled, the Coasties still have fun.  I journey to the donkey-end of the base for the airshow and think of their tent as my own private beer garden

How about this one then ?:-

Revells latest 1/72 Lifeboat

Thes Lifeboat is more like a coastguard cutter as it has a Helo deck, a ramp for a seperate rescue launch in the stern under the Helo platform. Plus the usual RIB's.

Imagine that as a basis for a Coastguard ship  :P . Due out in October and about 64 cm long. Should go well with their existing lifeboat the Ankona and new Airfix RNLI Severn class boats (BTW The Canadian Coastguard did use some British class designs as lifeboats.

That new Revell boat has some interesting conversion possibilities I think. You could mount a pait of 30mm Cannon on the foredeck for starters. Anyone else think of anything??

Extend the helo deck for Harriers and Cobras.

Some sort of 'main' gun with several CIWS for defence.

Maybe even a stretch for more room?

October release eh?   Hmmm methinks I'll be saving up for that one.

Stretch for sure  :D  :D  :D
May be a 75 or 105mm on the front  :P

Geez....I wish I had those guys' jobs ! Lucky buggers !

Just like you guys are saying, helos and harriers and guns......they do an awful lot of aftermarket stuff for the Matchbox Corvette, so maybe a few of those sets.

Looks like you could kit the little runabout out pretty good as well !

I've been doing some more thinking on this subject.  Why not make it a CG/SAR/Border Patrol/Militarised Police build?  I scanned in a bunch of pics from some old World Air Power Journals and International Air Power Reviews that might provide some good inspiration (at least for me they will).

Follow this link to where the pics are.

If it was possible to find a kit of HMS Leeds Castle in a decent scale (what sadist has the space and money to model ships in 1/72?), it'd be a shoe-in...

1/72 ship models? Hell yes!

Captain Canada

That's alot of cool pics, Anthony ! Thanks ! Those Japanese sure have alot of 'em, eh ? Love the HS 800...cool !

Why do you people insist on showing me more and more and more cool stuff that I want, but can't afford ?

Why ?

:P

Now, that would be one sweet kit ! I could see buying the Revell or Airfix 72nd scalers instead, tho....and maybe buying a cheap RC toy boat to add and make her a real toy......with a SHAR om the back !
