Someone mentioned a FRADU Sea Vixen some time back but nothing appeared to have been done.  I had a dead Vixen in the stash and decided to have a go.

Mid 70s.  The carriers are being pensioned off for scrap and whilst the RAF is gleefully taking the Navy's Phantoms and Buccaneers like vultures around a dead Gazelle, the Sea Vixens are awaiting the melting pot and conversion to drones.  Many of these aircraft had plenty of life left and in stepped the Fleet Requirements and Air Direction Unit.  As the Sea Vixen had better performance and capability than their hunters and Canberras, They purchased fifteen aircraft.  These were used for various duties training naval gunners and radar ops, the last aircraft being retired in 2004.  Many of their aircraft remain airworthy in private hands.

Wow...beauty !

Always liked that plane. Looks right at home in the modern colours. Did they retire them too early ? Looks like an airframe with lots of potential.....................

Great!
And your view from the rear is one of the best I ever seen to show the slight asymmetry of the canopy, port. Thanks!
Changing the name to BAe is a nice update, but must it remain Sea/Naval? or do you consider a Land Vixen, or Amphibious Vixen, or even Supersonic Vixen (with more thrust, modern way, in the same room with the same pipes)? ^_^

that looks sooo right in that colour scheme, really neat modelling too... B)
(hmmm...wonders if they actually did consider keeping them on as FRADU. birds?)

'once a vixen always a vixen' i reckon,  :D chuckle, happy modelling, cheers, joe

I think it was originally considered along with the D-3 Drones and Target tug versions. Need to check the warpaint volume on them to check.

Looking good in that scheme X, like the Martel seeker to simulate the anti-ship missile attack for training our Warships in detecting and responding to attacks at FOST.

The Sea Vixen is one of those aircraft that you just look at and think 'There's nothing like it'. And in that scheme she looks beautiful!

Yes, but for what ifers, what THERE IS is not the most important, maybe... what THERE COULD HAVE BEEN is a much richer universe... :)  :D  ;)  B)    ^_^
The Supersonic Sea-Vixen, the British Mach 2 twin-fuselage... I found in Tony Buttlers' books even weirder dreams than in the sad Reality of actual metal machines. Alas, scratch building is not an easy task and few of us can enrich the World much... :(
