Saw that last week - saved it - locked it in for my build - wrote the backstory :-D

Also: during my reading I found the Aeronavale trialled one or two A-4Ms before deciding on the Super Etendard. Discuss!

I doubt you could really compare the long-winged A-4 to a Bf/Me 109 when landing (or taking off). It at least has a nose wheel (forward CG) and a jet engine (no prop for torque).

Ditto - someone at another forum mentioned an Agave radar fit...

did wonder about a Canadian Skyhawk For HMCS Bonaventure or British Skyhawks to operate from the Albion and Hermes class carriers. Though the Hermes did operate Buccaneer

A question about the basic A4.  The newish model by Airfix is an A4B.  I understand that the nose was extended in later model A4s (from the C version onwards I believe).  Does anybody know if the A4C was the definitive nose length or were there slightly longer ones?  I want to use an Airfix kit for an A-4G.  I'd need a longer nose though, wouldn't I?

Yeah, Brian, the A has a very snub nose, the B & C have a short nose, & the E, F, G & M have a long(er) nose.

IIRC, the B and C noses are different, too, because the C had additional avionics added. Fujimi did a C (just re-released by "Hobby 2000"), and it's AFAIK the only kit of this variant. But I think there's a resin nose conversion set for the Airfix B (which is a lovely mode with great fit) available. The later versions (E onwards) might also differ in nose shape, depending on equipment and sensor carried, even though the general pointed shape is the same.

A4D/A-4 nose lengths. The RAN A-4G is basically an A-4F:

Note that the engine intakes are also different.

Thanks, Jon that makes it clear!  I've been thinking about this for some time.   I think I need a resin nose from a later model A4 to make a A4B into a G.

If you want to be "correct", this won't work just with a new nose, due to the different/longer air intakes with splitter plates. For a G, better use an E/F and get rid of the hump - that's what the G actually was. A-4 versions ARE confusing!

The Hasegawa A-4E/F has the hump as a separate item, sorting that problem nicely for you.
