Why did the A4D-6 lose to the A-7?
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

Couple of Skyhawk questions, folks:

1. What colour was the thermal cockpit shield (I presume white, but the only photo I can find is black and white)? Does anyobdy have a better picture of it than the one that appears on the Wikipedia page?

2. When a Skyhawk was preparing for launch from a carrier, would it's leading edge slats be in or out?

Ah Sod's Law: found the answer to the slats question just AFTER I posted it.  ::)

What was confusing me was that I could find pics of A-4s on the cat with both slats in and slats out. However I've just found a Q&A on PPrune by somebody with the same question, and it seems that the slats were gravity operated, so they were always down when the aircraft was at rest, but they retracted VERY quickly when the cat was fired, so those pics that show them in were probably taken half a second after the aircraft started to accelerate.

Found a Skyhawk concept today that might be vaguely appealing to Kit ;D: http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,19573.0.html

Would be marching to the beat of his own drum, if he didn't detest marching to any drumbeat at all so much.

That looks about as much fun to land as a Bf 109T.

Cheers,

Unfortunately I can't see the drawings, thanks to that site's internal rules, but I can imagine it.

Extended span delta's never really look right to my mind, the whole planform and wing shape are changed, almost by definition of course.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Here it is, Kit.

...and for comparison with my comment:

Yes, I see EXACTLY what you mean Logan!  ;D

That's sure to wobble like crazy with just a slight amount of bank on touchdown.

I do like the look, although it's hardly a delta any more, is it?

Woah, I am NOT a fan of the extended-span!

Quote from: Chris707 on June 30, 2010, 12:49:10 PMIt'd be interesting to take the A-4X and maybe stretch it a tad, and then do away with the horizontal tail entirely, use a cranked-arrow planform and keep the canards...

Chris
I came up with a very similar idea years ago after a Lego build, I have an Italeri 1/72 Scooter fuse caked in filler with a big radome and - thanks to, I think, AeroplaneDriver - a Eurofighter wing. It's on my "moderately-close-to-the-frontburner" designated F-19. I do love the A-4X, I may have to do that. Good thing the new Airfix kit is so cheap!

Speaking of which - have any more photos of the Army concept A-4 come out of the woodwork? I'd quite like to build one.
