Some in progress shots of my 1/72 RoG Eurofighter in what-if RNZAF markings.

Stencils came with the kit. Roundels are homemade.

Still trying to decide how to arm the thing. More as progress continues.

How did the country lose its way...when did we stop rooting for the man with a flame-thrower or an acid-spraying gun of some kind?

Man, when I see airbrushed camo like that, I really wish I knew what the heck I was doing with my own airbrush.  I mess about with mixed results at best but you are definitely pulling off some artwork there!

This is truly inspiring!

Okay, I just went back and looked at your in progress pics again and this time realized that your splendid paintjob is in 1:72 scale!!!

That does it-----I'm going home!

Wow...is that ever sweet !

Long Live real Camo !

I'd arm her up as a ground pounder....seeing as the Kiwis were so adept at the low level thing.........

Oh I really love it!!! The idea is wonderful (NZ doesn't need a long-range attack fighter like F-15E or Rafale) and the Typhoon is probably the best self defense and interception fighter in the world!!
And the camo...

For the weapons, there are a lot of possibilities. After all, the Typhoon has 13 hard points for  weapons!!

For a RNZAF I could see 3 AMRAAM (or Meteor), 2 AIM-9 or ASRAAM, 1 laser pod, 2 250kg LBG (on the "shoulders" pylones), 3 external tanks and 2 Penguin or Harpoon anti-ship missiles...
I think it's a good configuration for a maritime CAP... ;)

Choice of anti-ship missiles depends on desired engagement range, the Harpoon has rather better range that the Penguin.

mmm, like those somewhat lo-vis roundels.  Looks like I have to go a different route on a current project!

You know, if a sheet of low-vis Kiwi and/or Irish markings were available I'd grab a set or two...

Oh man! this is looking Beautiful. Can't wait to see the finished product. From a techie POV, what airbrush did you use to paint said Typhoon

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Camo was done freehand with Gunze acrylics thinned with 91% isopropyl alcohol, shot through a Badger 200 run by a Silentaire compressor. I can't remember what the air pressure was, I just kept increasing it until there wasn't anymore spatter. The trick, I've found, is heavily thinned paint, higher (than 10 or 15psi) air pressure; then staying close to the model's surface when outlining the scheme.

I'm thinking this will be armed with various anti-ship missiles and AAMS (in this future, NZ has lots to worry about from the Islamic Republic of Indonesia and a China that has started moving south).

Once this is done, I plan on building a Rafale in Libyan markings.

David,

that's a superb build, and fabulous paint work!! Thanks for the tips on the airbrush methodology too; I'm in the process of switching over to acrylics from enamels, and am learning that the techniques required by each are quite different!

First off, thanks for the info on the AB.

I like your scenario for the Kiwi's, it fits right in with a number of backstories/themes that have poppe dup on the board in the last couple of months.
