Well I hope that this "what if" project fits this forum....

It is a r/c live steam tank that I finished a while back, but I just stumbled onto this what if model forum (what a great idea!) Anyway, it's not a model, at least not to the extent of  the models here. It's just a working skeleton with no cosmetics, but it is a pretty interesting what if to think about :) I'm in the process of making more steam related what ifs :)

Not sure if it's really what-if, but it's pretty freakin' cool, and fits right in here ! You just need to make some kind of funky body for it.....looks like it would fit right into a movie like Wild West !

Can you make one of them giant spiders as well ?

:P

Thanks for sharing !

Hahaha yeah it doesn't quite fit in here, especially without a nice finished body, but figured you guys might get a kick out of it.

I've toyed around with ideas of having a body or shell of some sort, but it would have to be very well ventilated, plus heat and fire proof.... if you manage to get your quicktime going you will see that flames shoot out all around the boiler whith a slight breeze. I think I will just leave this one alone for now, as I would rather not add any more weight to this beast.

Funny you mentioned the spider.... I'm on it! well not a giant one unfortunately, but it will be steam powered and rc, waiting for the steam engines to arrive, hope that I can pull it off :)

Here is a non-rc steam walker that I've made already: http://www.crabfu.com/steamtoys/steam_walker/

Woah....that thing'll be a monster !

Graet stuff !

BTW, where are you at ? Judging by your resume, you're somewhere on the West Coast between California and Alaska !

And I can see you having just as much fun at hobby shows, where the boys get together with their miniature steam threshers and trains etc., as the boys do bringing their what-ifs to 'serious' model shows !

Well I'm glad that you enjoyed my resume. I'm south of Canada :)

About fitting in with all sorts of hobby people.... well I actually feel the opposite. Like you see here, I don't quite fit in, sort of, but not quite. I also don't quite fit with rc crowds - who are mostly into faster, lighter, more powerful. Or steam nuts - they are more into trains, restoration, and reproducing exact historic miniatures. I guess my creativity and interests kinda puts me in the misfit area. I can't "talk shop" completely comfortable with any one crowd.

What you might do is fit it with upper parts like those of various Confederate ironclads.  That'd make an interesting vehicle.

Wow, that's cool.

Way cool!  Great resume too. I tried training crabs but I got frustrated and just shaved my groin.

That is wonderful !!!  My favourite era of armed forces...the steam generation!!
You could use thin sheets of tin, with little rivets of solder...no matter what, that thing is cool.
Really glad you found us !

What you do is you set the shrubbery on fire and stab the bastards as they flee.

As for the tank, it kinda reminds me of that amphibious steam-tank from the movie Wild Wild West(steamboy-tech aside, an atrocious movie)

Hows about a couple gatling guns for that monster? ^_^

This got me to wondering...since I want to build a large scale ironclad, and was going to put a electric engine in it...how much cooler would it be if it was STEAM powered?????
