It's scheduled to make an appearance at Duxford and La Ferte Alais in the new year, according to Mr Reilly and the team... :P

QuoteThe P-51D N87ZY, Race Number 42 "Life, The Universe And Everything"
I have tried to find with Google if this plane was famous, and I do not understand :(
The name of the plane seems related to hitchhiking... In the sky? Angels hitchhiking? How would they climb aboard at such speed? For hitchhikers on airport before take-off, would there be room enough for them in this tiny cockpit?
Could someone explain the name of this plane?
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

It would be my pleasure to explain, my dear Tophe.

Mr Reilly (the owner of N87ZY) is a fan of Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" series. In the series, the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything was: 42.

In honour of Mr Adams, who died in 2001, Reilly decided to name his P-51D after the Ultimate Question, and number it after the answer. B)

In a totally unrelated area, my favourite book in the series is the third book: Life, the Universe and Everything. Good read. :P

Ok, that's it then , I'll start packing already to visit those shows next year. Wouldn't want to miss a beauty like that.

The engines spit out fire, I'm pushed back in my chair
The pressure gives me thrills as we climb in the air

:o You mean you wouldn't consider going to them otherwise? FOR SHAME!!!

 Just joking.

Hmm....I'm looking forward to (eventually) doing another racer. Problem is, what type.....?

BTW, The basic Mustang was the Airfix 1/72 P-51D/K kit (the one with Swedish decals which are now on my SAAB F.1, a captured and modified Bf109G-10), the radiator scoop from the Supermodel 1/72 Aermacchi MB.339 and the canopy from Minicraft's MiG-25 Foxbat. In 1/144. The canopy fairing is the largest amount of filler I've used in one place.

Which reminds me, I should post ANOTHER famous racer I've done a conversion of...back soon in a new thread  ;) ...

Is the other racer powered by an "improbability drive"????

^_^
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

  B) You'll see. She's not a whiffer but I feel obliged to show off more of my work.

This is modelism the way I love
P-51D 1/72 + Mig 25 1/144 into a single model! :D
Can you hear my clapping hands up to New Zealand, on the other side of the Earth?

K5054NZ

I can, Tophe, I'm touched. Merci beaucoup. B)

That's really nice Zac! What a sweet little build!

Love the colors and the numbers too!

K5054NZ

Thanks Bri. The yellow sunstreaks were my first major masking job, and I HANDPAINTED the numbers. Very tricky but I got them how I like. Cool huh?

Brian da Basher

Like I mentioned before, it's amazing how a lack of proper decals can improve your handpainting/lettering skills.

Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.
