Mine choked a little too - I have to refresh the page every time I look to read new posts, just so I can see the text.  I had to refresh mid-reading through the pictures too, because I lost visibility and stuff.

With the Osumi through deck carrier you will need to build a sponson to mount the existing Island on or Replace it with one from say a shortened remodeled Invincible class. The Japanese made their extra wide to assure the people it wasnt a carrier thus restricting flight deck ops to the rear of the ship,

Actually, I'm using the Osumi island as a place holder right now.  I was going to end up using it on one of my 1/800 Kitty Hawk class ships to make it a CVV.  I've got a few Japanese destroyers in the stash that might sacrifice their superstructures.  I want to keep this thing as simple as possible.  The next one (when I get another Osumi class hull) I build will be modified a bit with ideas that have struck me as I built this thing.

Anthony - Cool fleet! Who makes that JMSDF minesweeper? It looks like it has a ton of potential!

That nifty little ship came with a 1/700 Hasegawa Takanami class DD.  HLJ had this special "Defenders of Japan" two pack with the latest two non-AEGIS destroyer classes the JMSDF has.

Thanks - I found the minesweeper (or equivalent) in two Skywave kits - the Yamagumo and Asagumo.

The Yamagumo DDK's are cute little kits too - I have a pair of them, they're almost WW2 size Destroyers, Very cute little warships in truth.  I plan on whiffing a couple for my Republic of Japan Navy, just haven't figured out What to do with these little cuties just yet.

Much better now!

But what about that tilt-wing VTOL on the Mirai? Somehow I can't find a pic of that.
Cheers,

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Thinking along those lines, I see much promise in this kit:

I've seen them before, they're not bad looking, though they have significantly little in the way of deck space that could be converted for purposes.  Short of doing something like doubling the missile stocks, or something to that line, I don't know what else one could do with them.

Move the smokestack structure forward, to make a single upper deck structure. Move the RHIB back and make a well/ramp for it at the stern or just remove it and make room for more missiles or add a second, different weapon set. It looks like the kit's deck is flat and you add the deck structures, so there seem to be some possibilities to this kit.

Go the other way and reduce weapons to a minimum for Coast Guard/Fishery protection  ;D

OK, so I got my latest (and, wallet willing, last) eBay purchase today, and it contained the 1/700 Trumpeter Jean Bart kit.  I dig the quad turrets, but don't know what to do with them.  Put them onto the incomplete Kentucky, but it didn't look right.  Then I remembered my 1/720 Revell Iowa, and came up with an idea!  Export Iowas!

I think (once I waterline it) I'm going to turn it into the HMCS Guardsman, one of four modified Iowas bought and built for the RCN during WWII.  They kept them around till the 80's, and they got brought out for the fun and games of the 80's.  I figure 3 turrets of 4 15" guns, numerous 5" guns, and 48-60 Harpoons (the US wasn't giving up Tomahawks just yet).
