I'm in.  I've got a stack of vac-forms and I've just always been too chickenshot to dare try one!  I'm in.  I'll start with one of my 1:48 Wings ™ kits.  If I pull it off, I can finally try my IPMS Norway N3PB floatplane and gradually work up the guts to build my Dynavector Wyvern and TSR.2 in 1:48!

Hey, the worst that can happen is I'll sand something down too far and I should be able to fix up any such screw-ups, right?

I'm in.  Thanks for the motivation, Zac.

What's the plan?  Deadline, etc.?

The plan is to get someone who's experienced in running GBs to help me set this up, cos i really wana do it.

QuoteWait a minute...vacuforms? Does this mean I need to try and whif something out of my Hoover?
No, it just means the kit should suck.

:D

cthulhu77

QuoteEh, I don't think my skills are up to a vacform just yet. Sorry.

Jon
This is one of those "cold water" moments...trust me on this, once you do a vac kit, you'll sit back and say "how come I never did this before?"  Pick up a cheap kit, and vacs are cheap, and just start...they really are easier to build up than you think, and with the whole whif concept, even the mistakes can be rationalized !

 I'm in .

Oh geez this goes against my better judgement, but I'm planning a raid on the Local Hobby Store for any after Xmas bargains next Saturday. I'll keep my eyes open for a vac. If I find one, count me in. Greg, your intution was right on the Hase Fuji (pics later today), so you're probably right about vacs too.

cthulhu77 ( that's one crazy name, I've just realised. Explain yourself Greg!)

And, if he can find a vac (rather , if he WANTS to find one) Brian da Basher.

That's 5. Cool.

Timeline - I'll take a look at other GB threads here and elsewhere and get back to you all.

Prizes - how does this work? I'll try to source one.

Be back soon. Thanks for the enthusiasm guys!

Hehehe...merely the 77th speedy incarnation of my favourite elder god.  This will explain a bit:

Hmmn Vacforms, i have a few of those including one on its way from the States that Evan kindly sorted out for us (Might be a tad big for this build however !!!! :o ).

So count me in Zac as i'll have a blast at an SR177 i think.

Cheers

Okay that's six - cheers Geoff B! An SR177 - wicked!

Greg - what in God's name are you on about?

Okay, basically the plan is this:

Only vacform kits are allowed. Vacform for this GB means the airframe must be vaccuum-formed. Obviously you can use injection-moulded, resin or white metal parts, but the main airframe MUST be vacform.

The GB will start on April 1 and run for six months - finishing on September 1.

At this point in time there are no "prizes" as such - apart from the satisfaction of a job well done  ;) . UNLESS someone is willing to donate a kit.

The GB will be called..."This Kit Sucks GB".

Right...any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

John Howling Mouse

I will gladly donate a prize: a VAC-FORM kit !!!!  Probably be a 1:48 "Wings" ™ kit.  I'll see what I have in the stash.  They're not quite up to Dynavector standards but they are still quite good.

Okay?

Aw, you're so generous Baz! Can you PM me a list of kits so we/I can pick one as a prize?

Thank goodness this GB doesn't start until April 1st (wait April Fools' Day...seems a little fishy). My plans to raid the LHS this Saturday have been derailed by yet more mandatory overtime. I'll be at 24 hrs of OT by the end of the week. If I didn't know better, I'd think I was an emergency worker or something.

I still plan on participating, but goodness knows what the kit will be or what I will end out doing to it. Can you say accurate vacuform surfboard in 1/72 scale?  ;)

Brian da Basher

K5054NZ

Surfboard?

Yeah, so, I chose April 1 because April 1 = birthday of the RAF. A bit sentimental I am...well more mental than senti, but you get the drift.

Any more takers? I may just make it sooner, I'm not sure, just hope the moderators talk to me about a new subtopic/thread thing in the GB depository for us. I can't wait, personally.

BTW, anyone got a spare Airfix Seafire contraprop I can have?

cthulhu77

Sounds like a good plan...the first it is, then !

K5054NZ

Excellent...It's all falling into place...
